Body Blow - The Movie!

Took the GoPro out on the helmet last time I went out on the lake ... damned Rain-X I put on the lens just made a nasty mess :( which ruined the footage of all my best slams! :D

Enjoy ... if you can suffer through the fog ...

More details here ... http://kiteosomatic.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-business-is-slam...

I'm not 100% sure it's fogging on the inside ... I put a kind of Rain-X on the outside, and I think that was what the problem was - when it gets water on it, it's get a little gunky but sheds nicely. Great for the mirrors on your car (can't see the gunk) but not so good for a camera :(

Fog is on the inside and the drops are on the outside. I used some goggle anti fog wipes on the inside that worked well. The outside I have tried the rain-x but get the beads of water on the lens sometimes. Kills the shot.
Looking good Kami. I need some practice.

I used anti-fog spray on the inside ... I reckon that just compounded the problem :D

Here's something I figured out just recently down at the beach. If you wrap your gopro in a blue mechanics paper towel it helps absorb any moisture that may have gotten into the housing (warmer air than outside the housing).

Wrap around camera and leave a little hanging over the front so that any moisture in the front of the housing will be exposed to the towel. Make sure the towel is pretty snug so that it doesn't get hung up as your closing the housing.

Afterwards you can still see the display and the moisture issue will be seriously reduced for pennies.

I've read on other forums that folks have been putting their cameras in the fridge overnight - apparently colder air holds less moisture and reducing the temperature reduces the moisture content? It does reduce the temperature difference between the air inside and out of the housing - which causes the fogging. Problem is that you can't open the housing to switch out memory cards or batteries - kinda lame. That's how I came up with this - was having problems with fogging - kept opening the housing to either swap out the batteries or memory cards and would then clean out the constant fogging (lasts for about 4 minutes if you don't put anything in the housing to help). After putting in the paper towel - was clean as a whistle for the rest of the day. Make sure that none of the paper towel gets out of the housing or it will wick up some water and destroy your camera.

By the way looks like your making some solid progression - and that you've learned to take a hit well.

- side note - you ever hear of the bands -limbomaniacs, fungo mungo, or skankin pickle? They were big back in the late eighties early nineties - similar time period and genre as your background sound.

Yeah, I thought I had it licked - I've got a chamois panel in the door that worked perfect when I went skiing - must sort through that footage too ... I'm still convinced it was the anti-water/fog gunk I put in/on there. Next time, I'm going out dry and will check it 1/2 way through the day :D

Going up is the easy bit  coming down is where the skill is, and it's what I lack at the moment. I'm having mad fun though!

Haven't heard of those guys ...

Agree. I like having the camera to learn what I did wrong. Much better than memory when it goes by in s split second of WTF!?! How did that happen?

If I didn't include bloopers, there'd be no video

Mmm, I think 12'C air temp ... water is 'fresh' though so the gloves & the wetsuit just keep it all comfy - I can ride as long as my body holds out and only feel cold when I stop and concentrate on how I feel ... I'll be glad when I can take them all off though - limits my movement somewhat :D
