Should I buy a landsailer?... Now a build thread.
Not entirely sure that I need more toys. So I was wondering if anyone can tell me more about this. The seller doesn't seem to know much.

Anybody feel free to correct me,but it looks like a manta-ish frame (probably home built) with a modified seat. Either way the frame, sail, and wheels
for a 100 is a steal. Super jealous :D

Willard you have two choices and both bennefit me!! Either pay my way out there and I'll help you set it up and learn to use it. Or pack it up come
east to me and I'll help you set it up and learn to use it. Either way I get to play with it!!
BUY IT MAN If the frame is junk you can mod your buggy. But it looks fine in the pictures. I would buy it. You can reuse diapers anyway can't you?

Id say go for it too. if the frame is good, you might be on the dime for some bearings but thats not much as you probably know from buggying. If the
mast is good, you can probably mod sails from windsurfer sails that always seem to be on eBay for cheap if the sails it comes with arent any good.
Watch for tears in the eyelet that is in the bottom leading edge that the downhaul attaches too. Those can be repaired easy too at a sail shop,
proabably cheaper than buying a used sail. If you've ever land sailed once, you get hooked.
Considering I have about $4,000 in a couple Blokarts and sails, now that I know better, a $100 landsailer will be definately just as much fun.
Hindsight and all that huh?
Have fun!

Agreed Pokite. Modifying the windchaser I find myself thinking I should've just built one from the start. Then I remind myself that I'm building
character (somewhere right now my dad just laughed) and blah blah blah, i'll have a workable concept for a second one.
That's a heck of a steal and they're super fun projects. I'd make it a twin seater, its the best way to share sailing with someone :wee:

All in all you got a good deal on a PROJECT landsailor. The sails are crap, but you can find cheap windsurfing sails on eBay and Craigslist and re cut
them. May need to fashion a longer mast for your bigger sail.
The cart looks well used but fine. The bolt in the mast base keeps the mast from sliding all the way down to the frame. Remove that bolt and you'll
find your mast much too short. He probably kept the tires to swap them onto the rims that do fit. If the mast supports tubes slide up and down the
mast base, its probably for accomodating different size mast. Bigger sails = taller mast. There's lots of ways to rig the sail, look at some landsailor
photos and mimic what works best for you.

As far as that pulley on the end of the boom: That should be 1 of at least 3 points your sheet rope should go thru. You should find a point where a
pully should go in front of your seat or behind it to be able to sheet in or out (control the sail).

Willard, if you show up at long beach this weekend with your stuff I can show you what a blokart looks like and give you a hand in working with your
landsailer project. At least you can see a complete set up to get an idea of the correct set up.
Appex buggy, Libre hardcore buggies.
Flexboardz. Blokarts.
PKD Century Soulflys. NPW's. Nasa Stars.
A few other less flown oddballs,

Several ways to clean up the rims. 1. navel jelly caustic stuff but eats the oxidation right off. 2. 3M pads but lots of time and work. 3. soda blast
any way you choose thay will not shine up and will be pitted. For me I would get them cleaned up and paint them with a quality corosion proof paint.

Personal experience tell me you'll spend hours trying to get a nice polish back on those alum. rims. Please don't waste your time on it (like I have a
couple of times), the results are disappointing because of the staining and pitting. Find somebody local that does powder coating, choose your
favorite color and pencil those off the 'to-do' list.
