Any older landboarders out there?
I know age is all relative, but I am now 40 yrs old and don't think landboards would be out of the question for me at this stage. The general stigma
I get from watching all these vids is that its mainly the young indestructable type that are riding these things. Regardless, I'll be getting my
first landboard next week and I'll be ready to go! Of course, brain bucket and pads will be there as well.
Any other 40 plus riders out there?

I would highly highly suggest the hillBilly crash shorts or other padded shorts, falls hurt a lot on ground VS water!

Hillbilly crash shorts will be in the mix for sure! More protection the better is what I always say. Logged tons of time this past winter on the
frozen lakes, some of those crashes on the ice were painful as well. There's just more clothing in the winter to absorb the impact.
Thanks for all the confidence guys!

Rock it Cheddarhead!! I just turned 44 and love it. Depending on the wind, I'll ride either my buggy or landboard. Really light or strong and gusty
I'm on my buggy, otherwise I'm on the board. Finally made the transition to jumping with it and having a blast. What Carl said is so true...I've
probably only gotten 5-6 ft but it's a blast none the less...Let us know how it goes.

I figure I get off a kite when the wind matches my age in knots, I did do a 40+ session this Feb but using a kite on water, not land as I'm old but
not senile.
My advise to a new starter is to respect your joints. I have had major knee problems caused by repetitive impact and when getting going you will find
you give your body through new challenges and you don’t want to be limited by injury.
Age is a reason to start, not refrain.

just received my landboard this week after picking up snowboarding this winter and becoming addicted.... I am in mid 40's and as advised here will
take it easy to start. My biggest concern is that the snowboard slides sideways and doubt the landboard will. I expect a lot of "highsides" on the
landboard as I learn. Cheddarhead I will let you know what I think if it stops raining this weekend!

I'm 40 and I have two ruptured disks in my neck, nerve and muscle damage in my chest and shoulder and a messed up ACL in one knee and PCL/LCL in the
other and I still landboard (those injuries were non-kiting related but mentioned so you know age and injuries don't have to limit what you do and
when you begin doing it). Progress at your own comfortable pace. I will landboard until I physically can't do it any longer and then I will probably
buggy.

Go for it Cheddarhead. Age is all in your mind.
You are still a spring chicken BR I'll be 59 in June and we rode
Coyotes together at Vanier a few years back. At our age memories are short and sweet he he he.
I always err on the side of caution with kite selection on the ATB, go bigger on Coyotes, and am most comfortable on snow skis. Lots of faceplants
when learning to landboard so I always wear my elbow/forearm pads, knee pads, impact shorts, and helmet. I even took the footstraps off the ATB until
I could manage the gusts without faceplanting.

How could I have forgotten about my #1 Canuck ? I didn't realise you had any years on me!
Gee, I guess ... we can call that riding together at Vanier ? I did kind of forget about that . I remember that day for my 1st taste of an XXXL! We
also rode Coyotes together at different times at NABX . I guess I'm still in NABX and Washington beach brain at the moment!

Simply amazing the amount of landboarders around here my age or older! Never in a million years would I have thought. Your all an inspiration,
thanks.
Ya know it seems like such a catch 22. When your really young and have all that testosterone ripping thru your veins, you can hardly afford the
equipment to kill yourself.
When your older and more established, (hopefully smarter now) you can afford the stuff a little easier but are more mature to realize that your no
longer invincible. I think it's a good thing, or I would have been in trouble many years ago.

43 years, just had my first park n rides today.... Blade IV, GI 106 with 10" tires, semi hardpack wet sand.
If the winds are light, as they were for me (5-12 gusty), the learning curve can be more about skill and just keeping wind in the kite than about
crashing... I hopped out of the bindings a lot and had a few two-wheel slides but had no trouble avoiding a faceplant, or even falling to
knees/elbows.
fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....
sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...
also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

The man who taught me is 80+ and still rides a landboard! Or at least he did a few years ago. Granted its 100 ft back and forth across the smoothest
parts of the playa with a foil off the bridles, but still counts in my book! :wee:
If you don't stop playing, you won't grow old he used to tell me. Then again he also use to say 500 was the minimum amount of women I could date before
I get married....so he must be a genius

I've not spent more than an hour total on a landboard but feel like I could hop on and get it on a slightly modulated surface. I just feel like I can
kick it wide open on the buggy b@11s to the wall and can handle it every time. I'm sure I would bump and bruise doing the same on the landboard.
After snow skiing for 30 years, I gave snowboarding a try for the first time this winter. Rode all day with it. Sure I had some butt stalls, but no
high sides or caught edges the entire day. Time behind the boat over 35 years has taught me edge control and it translates across disciplines. That
skill def made it easier to learn kite boarding.
