Cinco de Mayo

I know it's late notice and we are getting together earlier than usual and not even at our normal spot, but what the heck, it shoudl be lots of fun for anyone in the Houston area.

We are holding our annual Cinco de Mayo event next weekend, April 22-24, camping near a spot on the beach we call "Stonehenge" which is a bunch of concrete pilings on Treasure Island 1/2 mile south of the San Luis Pass bridge.

For those google earth or gps utility users StoneHenge is at:
29° 3'26.93"N
95° 8'31.53"W

Current forecast for the wind is close to on-shore at 10-15 out of the SE which should make for some long beach runs.

Hope to have the van running. It's been a pain and I may end up camping the old fashioned way. If I do it's going to be tight, but I'll be there.

Weekend forecast for Saturday:

Mostly cloudy early in the morning then becoming partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 80s inland...in the upper 70s to mid 80s coast. Southeast winds 15 to 20 mph.

Pretty much sums up the friday through sunday forecast. Onshore winds, nice and warm... water temps are in the mid-70's.

Tide was high all day. I looked at the tide chart and it is low at 2am and comes up again by about 10:00am then stays high all day tomorrow.

We had 15-20 on shore all day. Great runs and tomorrow is supposed to be the same. See ya tomorrow.

Beach access rd is about 1mile west of Stonehenge. We are about 1/4 mile west of Stonehenge.

Steve.

It was a great weekend. We had Jellis, Joe, Van and family, Steve & Linda, Patrick, Herb and family and me.
Winds were 18-25 with higher gusts all weekend long. The road was quite wide and smooth and there were very few ruts compared to SLP.

The beach at stonehenge is pretty good. It's all hard pack and not very busy. There weren't any dunes, so you didn't need bigfoots. It was fairly narrow since we had an onshore wind pushing the tide in, so we had no tide changes during the day.

Sorry that you could not make it and I REALLY appreciate you giving up a trip to the beach to let others like myself make it. I had so much fun riding with everyone and hope we can go to the same location again. Thanks to everyone for making it such a good event!

Steve.

Woo Hoo! I could go for another saturday in the buggy :)

Like Steve said.. the paths the cars drive on makes for a pretty smooth packed surface even when the tide stays high. Plenty of room between cars and people for a couple miles, then it gets really crowded.
