Great, simple flying day at OOBE Field, SC!

Bored at work. Ok, not bored, just prefer not to work. I'm taking an in-house vacation day so I figured I'd crow about a good day I had yesterday at OOBE Field, Beech Island, SC.

Lately when I go after work, I get set up and then a couple polo players show up to practice and I can't fly. They're in a different field but they can see me and a couple years ago, I almost caused a lady to get thrown from her horse when my kite leading edge bash-"boofed" and her horse went nuts. So I don't fly if anyone is riding. They respect that and I get to keep my awesome kiting spot.

Furthermore, the place is called OOBE Field for a reason. Anyone who has ever flown there has dealt with the gusty inland wind and has been hauled out or been spanked out there to some degree or another.

So yesterday, I was planning on trying out my new (Used ) FS Pulse 2 8m, just to fly it around and check it out. Got there, winds , 6-16 so I decide to not fly an unfamiliar kite until the wind is more steady. (I know I'm a chicken Sh**). So I pulled out my Blurr 3.5, nice and simple and got back to basics and buggied for an hour non stop on a simple, trusty old FB. It would have been a good Phanny day but I didnt have alot of time so I went the lazy route, shook out the FB and had a freakin' blast!

Usually, at OOBE, you pick the kite that matches your high gusts and then do alot of waiting with the kite on the ground in the lulls, but yesterday was a great day, mostly steady and although, I prolly could have flown my Blurr 5, I had a great time practicing technical stuff, working the kite, etc. I almost always go for a Phantom when Im out there but there's definately a place for "shake out and fly" FBs in my quiver forever.

Awesome call... hard to tell what will spook a horse and never good to find out the hard way.

Our dog is terrified of electric toothbrushes and sneezes (her former life must have been interesting).... but no one rides her.... although Duncan tries when he is especially bored.

Sam

Chris, I still choose to fly my Beamer 5m whenever it could be sketchy! I know I can fly that thing blind, gust, no gust, up to about 20mph winds in the grass, and 25 on the beach. I will never be without a couple FB in my quiver!

Glad you had a good day out!

If you've filled out the form and "joined", you are a member in good standing and represent the Aiken Kite Club. I'd let Chris know as a courtesy though. Chili runs (hehe) are way better than just riding though.

YEP! Like BB said, you both are members, anyone who's ever flown here before and filled out the release forms can come anytime. I'm trying to get a handle on when the Polo snow birds go home to the North or from whence they came. They really like to take the place over!! The nerve... :ticking

And Tridude, I already admitted I was a chicken, so the Pulse 2 will come out when I get a low wind day to sort it out, and then I'll feel better about being cowardly.
