As a somewhat new lurker to these forums...I am appalled at the rhetoric and demagoguery represented by statements like this. Be assured that I will be utilizing reputable fact-checking sources to determine if, indeed, your wife and youngest son do want to get involved.

Sincerely,

j0fer (whom you might notice you can hardly ever, EVER, take seriously.)

That's awesome Don!! :)

I would really, really like to get my dad involved... my whole family looks down on me kiting, but it was actually my dad who got me started in the first place when he bought me a stunt kite years back. When he's in a good mood and has the time to stop by and watch me fly for a few minutes, he seems to be quite fascinated. I've tried to teach him to fly my stunt kite once in the past, but the problem is he gets frustrated quite easily... I think a stunt kite is harder to get the hang of at first than a power kite because it's so zippy and sensitive to input. I've tried telling him that, but he looks at a big kite with four lines on it and assumes that it's harder and more complicated than a two line stunt kite. Hmmm, I dunno. Whenever I offer to let him try to fly my 4.1m Twister II, he doesn't want to. Maybe if I got him a 3m Beamer or something for Christmas, he'd HAVE to fly it :D

If you father is off-put by the perceived complexity of a larger kite on quad lines or the sensitive nature of framed kites, another option might be an inexpensive dual-line foil as a stepping stone.

The newest incarnation of the Peter Lynn dual-liner, the Vibe II, is reasonably priced, RTF, and the 1.9 is flat out gorgeous.

Congrats Tri! That's cool that they are interested in seeing what this is all about.

My dad is ready to get in the buggy. He's flown several of my kites and has a 2 line stunter and an HQ symphony. When he visits us in Vegas, I'll pick a real safe combo of wind and kite to get him rolling.

@IW
I was also thinking something along the lines of a Rush Pro 3.5. It's on a bar, so all you have to do is steer it... and it has a third line for reverse launching :D

Any thoughts on an HQ Scout II?

By the way, I also really like the Vibe II :)

I was trying to save you wallet some abuse ;)

Nothing wrong with the Rush..... instinctive turning & relaunch (although you can body english most dual line foils to relaunch as long as the wind is up).

There's still a Rush 300 for $180 shipped in the Buy/Sell section.

The Scout will turn faster than the Rush, but even the 3M comes in $100-$150 more than the Rush 300/350, respectively.

The crossover linkage on the Scout II is on the kite-end, so it's not as imposing to a new flyer as have a bunch of pulleys at arm's length.

If you have suddently come into an inheritance, money would be less of a concern.... and probably a fine time to mention that I am not averse to late birthday presents

Dude, my wife wanted to learn,so while we were at WWBB'11 ,I took her to the end of the beach. Now , she already knew how to fly 4-line FB. We have been going to the beach and kiting for 6-7 yrs. And over time I have got her to fly her 1.7 sting and my 2.5 rage, and she can handle both fairly well. Here is the result....... I thought she did great, even if she had trouble goin upwind. Remember when you couldn't go upwind? be nice guys! ignore the pink & white foo foo pants she has over her jeans( apparently women do not buy jeans big enough to dress in layers!) http://www.vimeo.com/22749846

yeah Bob, I didn't want her to get to over-powered,so I gave her my aluminum Buggy(70+lbs) and her 1.7 sting. I did 2 runs w/ it first, just to show it could be done.
And I felt like the ol' fogey out there, I was trying to stay underpowered and outta the way cause I wasn't officially cleared by the doc to be doin this. That happened yesterday!
Tridude, sorry for the hijack ,it just seemed to be the right time and place for this. Hope this helps the MRS. and the youngin' get some inspiration. Good luck Bro' I gotta get to a JIBE event and ride w/ ya'
