I tried to make my own but my mountain board tires aren't smooth enough and the rubber stopper I used didn't grab well enough. So it really works?

What a great day for firsts ! The Big Stick and the virgin flight of the Phantom on buggy and blades !
I have very poor skateboard skills and NO SUP experience but the 2 go together so well that I'm shocked some long boarder never thought of it earlier.
For the $100 I think I will just buy a stick rather than try and make one. Definately my no wind fun for the summer! :cool2:

BR, you're such a natural on a longboard....you may not have tried the sport before but your skills from the coyotes and atb are transferring
naturally to the longboard. Add the 'land paddle' and you have yourself the perfect combo for sure!

I discovered the sticks a few months ago also. It is great fun ... plus a good upper body work out (which you could use :P )
Another good thing about the stick is you can use it as a brake. learning to brake on a long board can be a difficult task at first, so the stick
definitely helps with that.

Looks like an expensive broomstick to me. :P Why not just buy a cheap leaf rake, take off the rake part and throw on a rubber foot. Paint some
Hawaiian tiki design on it, put on a grass skirt, and you're done.

This is sort of the reaction I got from the fellow who runs our local shop. He has the SUP crowd already coming to him. He also automatically Poo
Poo'd it saying the same things. He just refuses to accept that we do the same stuff on land and are a viable market! :ticking:
The guy from the longboard store thought the same and tried to make one. Now he sells the original. I think they retail for $100 and are well enough
made that I can't see it worth slapping something together ? That said, I DID grab a boat trailer roller from my Mom's with the idea of making one
using it? With Kahuna you can rotate the rubber for even wear !

Sorry if I ruffled your feathers. Being a "traditional" surfer for over 30 years and most of that time in Hawaii, I'm just not turned on by this
"sweeper" craze. But no doubt it's a viable market, people doing it everywhere. Good luck to you.

I use an old wind surfer board that is huge and bought a paddle I like cruising around the Columbia on it just as much as I enjoy getting in the old
kayak and paddling upstream at least it puts me in the water when the wind is taking a day off... As for land sup'ing would probably not go that far
but in the right places I could see it being a blast... I see really big wheels that have a lot less drag like bike tires working really well and
generating enough momentum to get interesting! Sounds like a new project to clutter up the shop!!!

i tried it ... wasn't impressed. I had the feeling i was working my arms way too hard for something i could do with my foot for 10 times less energy
(not to mention 100 $ cheaper). It was fun though, but i'd imagine after a couple of times it'd leave the stick at home and just push my way around as
usual.
Me: Dutch Flyboarder ... but not the kind you\'re thinking of.
Power: PL Vibe 1.8 (1.9 mod) - PL Vibe 1.9 - PL Vibe 2.3 - PL Hornet 2.0 - PL Twister 4.1 - PL Twister 5.6
Wind Range: Riding: 11 - 38 knots. Jumping: 12 - 21 knots.
Ride: Trampa (14ply 35deg channels)
Wants: PL Reactor II 6.9 - PL Impulse TR 3.0
Former gear: Libre Dragonboard Sirius - PL Guerilla 13 - Flysurfer Speed I 10 - Ozone Manta II 10
Homemade: PL Vibe 1.8 - Star 6.0 (Depower) - 3 Nasawings - Pixie 1.5 (fun foil) - Flowform 3.0 (slk) - Frog (laundry)
Dilemma: If you work, you have money for kites but no time to fly them. If you don\'t work, you have plenty of time to fly
kites, but no money to buy them. Either way, we\'re all screwed...

tridude, good link!
Those big surf style longboards look perfect for using the big stick. (not so
sure the music was the best choice for that particular vid though.. )
