please help: how to shorten a line? (5th line)

long story short, my neo2 14m's 5th line has too much slack and does not allow the kite to depower fully before hitting the stopper
(see thread "a question for neo2 flyers" for more info)

so i want to reduce some slack
is there any way to do this temporarily to test which length is best, without compromising the line's integrity?
i was thinking of just knotting it, but the knot might be too destructive.

once i find the right length (keep the most slack without affecting the flag out) how would i go about making it permanent?

the 5th line has a stitched loop on one end (which attaches to the thicker line with the stopper [which then goes through the bar and clips onto the safety leash])
the other end has a loop which is attached to the 3 bridle lines which spread out to the centre line of the kite (to fold it in half to depower)

any help on this would be much appreciated.
i dont want to bugger it up and have to get a new line.

Add pigtails to your leaders. If that makes it better, leave them there.

Depower Quiver: 14m Gin Eskimo, 10m Gin Eskimo III, 6m Gin Yeti, 4.5m Gin Yeti (custom bridle and mixer)
Fixed Bridle Quiver: MAC Bego 400, JOJO ET Instinct 2.5 & 5.5, Lil Devil 1.5, Sting 1.2

Assuming there's a loop on the end of the line, tie a figure-8 knot then larS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s head the end behind the knot. 96% line strength so minimal effect. And it's adjustable - just move the figure-8.

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

forgive my stupidity, and amnesia of fig8 knots, but did you mean a double strand or single strand fig8?

i would assume double, (as a single would hardly change the line length and would pull tight pretty badly) but im not 100% sure.

thanks

Single strand ... the fig8 knot will act as an adjustable stopper to shorten or lengthen the 5th line. I'd do the kite end simply to keep it out of my sight and avoid another loop to get tangled with the bar :)

You know what forum software needs? The ability to draw a picture without having to mess around saving it, uploading it, linking it ...

like pigtails you mean?
i'll have to check again to see that the end of the 5th line will allow it.
the kite end of the 5th line looked like the loop attatches to all 3 bridle lines, in a way that wouldnt support pigtails.

Dunno  like this ...

Where A is the figure8 we use as an adjustable stopper, B is the new loop that gets used to larS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-s head to the pigtail and C is the original loop ... unless, of course, your line system is totally different then just ignore me

thanks for taking the time to draw the pic.
i'll get the kite out tomorrow and see if that will work on the kite end.
otherwise i'll probably have to do it bar end.
