Speed 2 12 questions

Just quick questions. Cost to rebridle? (I can do it, just need cost on the actual bridle)

How's the water relaunch? I've been scared by the forum on the relaunch of the Psycho 3. Easier, harder?

why do you need to re-bridle? damage? tuning and performance issues?

I just did a re-bridle for a 19m S2... was $800. ~75 lines, plus mixer, risers, etc... its a big job.... repair is easier.

relaunch is much easier to do than the psycho3... you do have to reverse fly it, then flip it around and take off. not like the pulse where you just pull a line and it rights itself.

S2 12m is my favorite kite, at this point will always be my favorite kite. in the stock configuration it is inherently a bit unstable , after an aggressive tuning it is sweet.

Thanks PZ. I think all things considered I'll keep my eyes out for a Pulse. Gonna go LEI I guess (if I can track one down) until I have the board skills down - then go back to the foils.

If anyone's interested the aforementioned FS Speed 2 12 that's for sale is over at eye kite surf. It's the $400 one but the guy figures it'll need some bridle work.

Eh? Reverse launch it like you would a 4-line foil ... pull both rear leaders, up it goes, drop one when you're ready to flip it around. Sissy  the Psycho3 13 I had relaunched much the same way - the manual said to grab one line but that was a fricken waste of time.

Don't mess around - send it John there

BTW had another fun session on the S2 yesterday :D

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Mood: low winds here I come

[*] posted on 31-5-2011 at 06:55 PM

I was impressed the first time I reversed launched my 12m sp2 in 15km/h winds. In the water I was able to get it up real easily, it drifted back to the center of the window quicker than on land. Pull the leader balls back up she goes, let one go and it pivots on a dime. I can't wait till I have the skills on water, found it to be a pain when I let it sit in the water for too long. It was such an amazing kite in the snow. The 12m speed2 jumps like a kangaroo that just downed a case of redbull. It glides like you'd never imagine. Once I've mastered the basics, it'll be one serious cruise machine.

Sitting on the water isn't too bad ... just don't drag it through the water - either by pulling the front lines or just one rear line. Tends to pump water inside it then ruin it's flight characteristics until it's dribbled all out

I'll totally take you up on that Shaggs!

I was wrong about where the Speed was - it's on FZone.

I have a Pulse I 10M I am debating to hang on to or try something else if you are interested. It relaunches on the water really easy. I guess you have not tried the Psycho on the water yet. Do you mostly kitesurf with the Venoms?

Yup - the Venoms have been the kite du lour for all my water efforts but really all effort on my own to date should be trumped by my next effort after the Florida lesson and the Doors arrive. I did have trouble sizing myself for the day on the Venoms but have since come to just trust the Arc Wind Range Calculator and the double checking of pigtail lengths etc. Plus with the Doors I should be able to get away a little small if I pick wrong.

I've got a few feelers out on LEIs right now so I think I should stick to my guns and shelf the foils for the start of this season until I get the board dialled in. The Speed seemed like a good deal though and if the relaunch was THAT different might have been worth it but I think Kami is right. Comparing the relaunch of the Psycho to anything LEI related I'm sure the Psycho has more of a knack about it but all I've ever flown is foils (and not all PLs) so the yank two, let one go method has always worked good on land. Can't see why it'd be THAT much different on water other than the drift factor.

Truth be told the Peter Lynns never hit the water (crashed) at all last summer so my "let go before it's too late" plan must be working out. They're always sitting there at zenith snickering at me as I blow the lake water out my nose.

.....then why oh why the LEI thoughts? Dammit. I should just fly what I got. It's already too much to become good flying any ONE in particular any time soon. I guess I just want to know what's best for me and I'll only know once I've flown them and come to know them. Love the self launch / land of the foils but the new LEIs are way easier than the first ones I had my hands on (Airush Lifts). Love the bridle-free PLs, hate the added setup. How will I like the added pumping? Prob not much but it's a means to an end as I hone my skills I guess. Really love the near absolute depower of the LEIs I've flown. Don't know I've ever felt a foil that does the same.

I'm a wreck

Hey I've still got an Airush Lift
You can't beat the total power of a foil though ... SA2 19 is a total session saver sometimes!

I can't WAIT for the day I have the skills to save a session with that baby. Gotta learn to stop trimming too much of it back first. Lightwind kiting in Alberta is a "do I feel like a swim today" kinda question 'cuz when it's that low the lulls are in the negatives.

I know the feeling. I been skunked twice this year already ... the SA2 will actually fly in so little wind you wouldn't believe it ... but you can't ride until there's enough wind to keep it at the zenith. Maybe I just need a S3 21 ...? :eureka:
