Are you refering to the large display Cats that they make? They are used as line laundry from a lifter. Or is this a traction kite I have never heard of?

As Dave said, Peter Lynn makes two items that might be referred to as Kitecats.....

A large piece of line laundry (even used, these go for NZ$4300)

and a twin-hull water craft for use with a suitable traction kite (forgot the price on these, but it was upwards of a couple of thousand, I think):

It would help if you could narrow down what you are looking for.

What kind of input are you looking for?

ATB,
Sam

From what I remember, not many were imported. I'm kind of surprised there's one here on the Banks, any idea who has it? Might be cheaper / easier to just pick up a cheap Hobie with a broken mast. Just about every beach I've ever been to has at least one bust-up Hobie on it.

Yes I have one of the first revisions that I picked up from a guy in BC. It was brought over by Peter Lynn himself in 05 and is the yellow one on the NABX site article. I reinforced the fiberglass around the front rudder and need to do some work on the seam between the upper half and lower half. I have been kitesurfing every chance I get so I have not been putting the time in to finish it. I am not surprised there are only 12. I scowered the internet to find this one and have a folder of every picture I could find thorugh google image search. There was a change in pontoon, seat frame, aft rudder and control linkage since the one I have. I saw a newer red one on sale in the UK last year on ebay. I believe PowerKite shop sold a few there. It would be nice to know what the actual production #s were. Too bad they are not making anymore. I have yet to pilot mine. Anybody want to help sand some fiberglass?

AD, our boats were brought over at the sametime! In fact I sailed your boat across Lake Mojave with Peter at Nabx 2005. Productions #'s are 12! There are 3 sets of hulls sitting in NZ but a major mistake was made glassing those units so frames were never made. Peter has said that its an open design and others are free to copy it for their use.The 12 that were produced were glassed by David Kay before he moved to the north island. .........aj

I just checked the local craigslist and saw 4 or 5 hobies for sale under $600. No doubt it's much bigger than the kitecat, but it sure would be a cheaper way to go and certainly a lot less than $4K.

I remember talking to David Kay back when he was building the kitecat. Too bad more weren't built. It's a very cool idea. I remember seeing a video of one playing in the surf, looked like a lot of fun. Somebody should have taken the idea and run with it.

sold my hobie 16...would npot work like the kat anyway..too heavy, requires trailer, can't backpack it across the dunes...my guess is that there is a market for it if priced right.

Wow, As one who has a little sailing experience all I can say is that would definitely take some skill to pilot.

Oh wow. You don't have to live on a beach to enjoy kiting on the water. And I have 4 lakes less than an hour away and one 15 minutes away. That noise you hear is the gears that started spinning in my head.
