One dead wolf

Any one know how to help calm a wife's wrath over buying 400.00 worth of kites? If not i am a dead wolf. Any tips would help. But the good news is i am getting a vibe II and a twister II! just might not be around to use them.

Before buying your own kites, you must get your wife/GF a Revolution and teach them how to fly. Then, when they start talking about getting another one, you can slide in a couple for yourself. :)

If you want to fight, just compare the amount of kites you own to the amount of shoes and purses she owns.....

Be prepared to share some time with Fido though.

If you can't get her into Revs, you might want to read >>this<<. Not kite specific.... but translates well, regardless of the discipline.

Countering with shoes/purses/clothes almost never works.

    After that:

    1. Flowers
    2. Dining Out
    3. Sweets
    4. Foot Rubs
    5. Spa Days
    6. Rinse
    7. Repeat

If you can get yourself officially listed on the US endangered species list, you might be able to wrangle some grants to help defray the costs of the above.

ATB,
Sam

You must be in the new credit life style. Charge itttttt.
The secret to a happy coexsistance of two humaniod bypeds is comunicating. And never use credit cards unless you have the cash in the bank to repay it. We put everything we can on our shared card. So we know what is spend and on what (no sneakyness) And our pay is dirrect deposited into our account. End of cycle we pay the whole thing. Man are we earning Cabelas credits!!
End of Dads lecture. Good luck and invest in bug spray. It gets insecty out on the street at night!!

After the fact is a little harder than taking care of it ahead of time..... Yes, I learned the hard way......

You might try a nice Kohl's gift card or something similar along with a nice date night to help ease her mind on your kite purchases....

If you are pampering her first and taking care of her first she will most likely not question your hobby purchases.....

Another good method is to sell a kite on PKF to fund another kite or find something around the house to sell on flea bay to buy that kite.....

My smarter half doesn't own a purse and has just a few pair of shoes. We usually split the cost of most of our kites but unless one fullfills a specific need I find it hard to justify purchasing another. We have 22 kites so she frowns on owning more. But with 22 kites it's easy to sneak one into the mix without immediate detection. When she finally gets sight of it, I can usually pass it off as an old purchase that we agreed upon but she let fade from memory.

That said a smart woman will smell a rat the first moment you start to pamper her if you don't clarify why she's getting the extra attention. She'll at best, think you're out to buy a kite and at worst cheating on her.

Goofball's right. If you can show that you've sold a kite that takes the sting out of it a bit. I tend you use kites to fund kites, bike for bikes etc. I don't mix my fund and I don't buy anything if I can't pay for it right then, as a general rule.

I can see the argument that the $ could have been used for bills. But is it CRITICAL that those funds pay the bills. In other words are you forgoing bill payments to buy kites? If that's the case you probably won't find much support for your position outside of this forum.

In the forum the other addicts aren't going to argue a new kite purchase.:bouncy:

I'm not sure I'm on board with WOC's position of buying your spouse a kite and teaching her to fly it. There are very few relationships that I've seen that tolerate spouses teaching each other anything.

I think we need to start a Dear PKF thread to deal with all of our kite/relationship issues!

Now that's a good idea.....

My wife always knows when I give her the extra attention there is a kite/hobby purchase on the horizon.....

I knew before this last kite binge I went on I needed to get her the new dining room table she had been after me to get her for some time......

If there is no pattern to the pampering that can cause more problems than it will solve.......

Feyd is soooo right about spouses teaching spouses........

If you do want to teach your spouse something might I recommend finding a class and and highlighting it and say...."honey look, wouldn't that be fun to do together" and then go take the class and let someone else teach........ and let someone else teach...... get the point.......

I kinda see a problem with that.....

On the other hand, I can definitely see the merits of a "PKF Confessional".... if for no other reason that to get a current tally on Kami's kites

Start a savings plan (outside of all your other expenses)

You will need to save twice as much as your gear will cost you, other half needs to be spent on your wife (or rest of the family).

Might take a little longer, but it is so much cheaper than a divorce attorney...............

money is nothing compared to TIME that the wind and kites will eat. if she's prepared for that, you got nothing to worry about.

$ will come and go, but the time thing, you get that wrong pal... no one gonna unphuck that.

I fund my kites by selling stuff I don't need on ebay. Works great. Wife is happy I get rid of clutter, I don't touch the bank or cards, payment goes right into paypal ready for a purchase.
I recently sold a 83' burton woody snowboard for $900. Turned it into a nice kite.
$400 kite is just a gateway drug.

my first reaction was $400? That would be EASY! One day you'll be covering purchases of thousands of dollars for buggy purchases! :embarrased:

Like others have said, sell a kite to buy a kite usually keeps my purchases off the house ways and means books. To cover the rest, set up a mutually agreeable budget that is a no questions asked/no guilt budget amount that is equal for both. Then be disciplined by saving up enough to buy out of your budget so it doesn't go in the red. If it does, let it build back up again.

The other plan of no short term debt is key to keeping money out of the argument rotation. Credit Cards get paid for at the end of every month. Work towards not having a car payment and if you have a payment, drive it for years after its paid off.

That's my advice from another dad/old guy.
