Which is easier in the beginning, and after you got the basics learned,.......kite bugging, kite boarding (water), kite boarding (land)?

I would only be fair to ask the guys who do all 3, right?

I am asking you all from the east end of the US, just a different point of view.

That’s cool, wish I could help you with some input. Currently attempting to find some floaties big enough so I can learn kite boarding.

I can only really speak to the beginnings on ALL fronts:

Easiest - Buggy

Hardest - Water

More hard than easy - Landboarding

Second easiest - Coyotes

1. single line kites
2. sport kites
3. buggying
4. flyboarding
5. kitesurfing

Easiest - Buggying
Somewhat Easy - Land Boarding
Hardest - Water

not sure about the buggy thing. never tried (will not commit to the HAUL)

i felt like the water was much easier than landboard.

on the water sloppy skills and plenty o power and you're up and riding without much effort. your gonna crash some but it comes together fairly quickly. really its about the conditions and managing the kite. 20mph and harnessed can be unsettling for most. this is the cull point for the water. when i first started and harnessed in the water was just the place to be! it was SAFE... away from land and people/objects.

land board ALOT of balance and spot on kite control or your eating it alot. coyotes... somewhere in between but you need kite skill to make it smooth and fun.

water is faster and the boost are huge, mostly because conditions are just MORE. the same conditions on land are just tedious and down right dangerous. the first time i did a 25-30mph land board warm up for the water with the local crew standing around , they thought i was joking, truly shocked. i know one guy kitesurfed about 8yrs. he rides with me a little, but no way would he go out in 25.

in the beginning on the land sometimes, after a pull over you're just not getting up...its just brutal and that can be in 10mph, this culls the lot quickly.

in the beginning in the water you're splashing around, teabagging yourself 5 feet out of the water, its kinda fun. i was completely fascinated by the amount of power. somewhere between a boat and a small helicopter. i was most concerned with the 10second walk into the water with the kite, because i knew this could break my back in a blink.

understanding conditions( power!) and kite mastery(power tool !) from there, you can apply it to WHATEVER.

I came into it with no board skills and started at water. I was so frustrated I nearly quit.
For me , Roller Blade became Coyotes, Ski, Buggy, ATB and still not getting there on water ( not trying ) .

I suggest you " Go with what you know ". It will be different with different people.

Funny you don't include Blades, Skis or Snow Boards ? For many these may be easiest?

After, I think buggy is easiest in so much as you are sitting down?

easiest to hardest to start with after learning basic kite controls IMPO:
Buggy-easiest because of sitting & balance, but steering with feet is kinda tricky!
Snowkite with skis-easy balance & previous ski exp. make it quick to pick up!
Kitesurf-PHREE already nailed this(as always)
Snowkite with board-balance is a lot tougher, frozen water's not as forgiving as the liquid stuff.
KiteATB-small wheels, difficult terrain, unforgiving falls.

Now, this is just 'starting'... 'progression' is a horse of a different color, I believe.

left out snow cause its season related, here it is a long drive and only a few months at the best. besides I think it is easier to snowboard than water or land.
As a kid skateboarding was the thing to do, so I am that much closer to boarding than most.
I do think bugging is the easiest with kiteboarding 2nd and ATBing 3rd.

in the BEGINNING, just being harnessed in...in good conditions(15+), that hump really was huge, the water was just the place to do it..

no way could i have jumped on a landboard first. and the times i did wow what a education.


advancing progressions, different motivation. unhooked blind riding for example ...you need good models, ultra safe water spots. survival kiting in offshore wind is not the spot try new junk.
