Flysurfer Pulse 10m wind range

Ok, so I recall some folks saying the pulse had an amazing wind range. I've flown it in 10-15 in the buggy and had it trimmed to about 1/2, it was a good amount of kite. One of my few proud OOBE's, I went head first over the front fork! So I decided to take it in the water yesterday in about 17-23 g25. I launched the kite fully depowered and at the side of the window and went for a huge skud ride :) I trimmed the kite out just a bit and my 200# could not hold it back. When in sheeted it in I could _just_ hold it. Literally, I was being dragged down the beach at about 6in / sec and could not walk backwards. I landed it... but similar experiences or is this 10m just trimmed super hot?

Sounds like it needs a tune up. Have you done a line check and mixer test recently?

Agreed. The wind range you describe is perfect for that kite on the water.

nope, it came to me "tuned" and I've only flown it about 8-10 times. But sounds like I need to figure out this whole mixer thing. I'm the only one in the are with a fs, so this should be fun. Guess I'll learn from the school of youtubes ;) any tips/pointers?

The other thing to bear in mind with this kite is that people tend to like riding in the water a little over powered. The situation you describe does sound like you are getting more power than I would expect, however it also sounds like perfect time to grab a board and hit the water with said kite... Due to the amount of drag water gives you, flying right at that edge of being able to hold onto it sounds like it will be a really fun "lit" session.

Still, I wouldn't discount the views that you might want to have your mixer checked. The recommendation I remember hearing is that you DON'T want to mess with it when you first get it, but to fly it a good 6-10 times BEFORE you run the mixer test. At this point, the lines will have probably settled in for your riding style and weight, at which point you will want to check your lines...

Hope that helps.

Do you know how many hours are on it before you got it? If anything check for front line stretch. I don't think the mixer could contribute to an over powered situation unless it is completely out of spec. Once I launch I am straight out to the water. I have only had a couple buggy sessions with mine and it was low consistent wind. Inland gusties are no good.
Try body dragging a bit with the kite first and get used to it and the water relaunch before you go too far. I uploaded the relaunch video to my youtube account. See "WEBSITE" link below. Also there is a video I took flying it in Mexico in the 20mph range.

John has a video on his site about tuning the mixer that explains it the best I have seen.

Nice video, more detailed to the specific kites which is very helpful. The one on powerzone explains how the mixer affects the shape of the kite and the changes in how it performs which I like to know, then again I am working on becoming an engineering :P

Arkay,

your winds looked a bit punchy and the trimmer maxed causing slow to react to bar input.......Pulse has great range but can be a bit fussy in punchy winds, I attribute this to it being thick with an AR of 3.5(just my opinion/Pulse 2 has an AR of 4.2).........I was good from 13/14 to 25 on water (13/14 on door/15/16 on TT)............one thing you can do is replace your depower line and change the bar throw to 16.25 inches, with mixers to B-1cm and C-2cm............that extra inch of throw will help your depower, and mixer adjustments stability........................

Here's the list of stuff I found... the mixer test video could be a little more detailed in their instruction, I'm a bit surprised flysurfer doesn't have a hands-on good video on this.

So I figured out that I needed to move the B knot up but it really needed to be moved further then there was line! I thought maybe I was doing something wrong... but John from PZ showed up in Manzo and spent a lot of his time to help me get the kite tuned! Huge thanks to John! After watching him do the adjustments I'm much more confident in what to do. He also gave me a tip that you should stretch out the ring lines every so often because they shrink since they are not under load. He also noticed that my ELC's where not at the kite bridal but at the beginning of 5m extensions, so we moved those too. ELC's at the bridal, check! Was a bit gusty at the end of the day but I launched the kite in 9/16/24 and it flew great! Hoping that the wind is in the 15-25 range tomorrow so I can give the kite a go!!

So from the line plan above I count 7 ring lines. Correct?
Both sides
A:7 = 162.4cm = 63.93in
A:9 = 124.4cm = 48.97in
D:10 = 158.2 = 62.28in
In the middle
Z-I = 300cm = 118.11in

How far were yours off?

yeah 3 on each side and one on the bottom as I recall.

my ring lines stretched.... quite a bit.. maybe 1/2" to 1" ... EACH!

The A bridal was longer by about 1 1/2" :o

I didn't measure then lengths from the ELC, although would be interesting to know how many inches of stretch there was. I just started at the ELC's, kept the lines tight and ran down to where the A,B,C,Z knots are. ... in theory the should all line up .. in practice, they should be "close" ;)

Note that there are slightly different directions for the newer kites. For the p10, the wak line must be completely loose.

often with a used kite ... the pulley lines are "replaced" with sometimes random lengths.... the correct length is 200cm. if the pulley lines are too long then the mixer references will all be way off. also the Bmain and Cmain could be perceived as "too short" or "too long" and prove difficult to adjust back to neutral.

IMO , Amain did not stretch , its a 600lb line and could not stretch that far. perhaps 1cm but not 1inch. I also bet that Zmain is "short" because it is under loaded and needs a re-stretch as well. mixer discrepancy is 99% of the time due to the pulley lines.

Bill, at the end of this season... it would be a good time to replace the pulleys, pulley lines, depowerline, equalize the lineset, and upgrade to mixerballs.

untill then.... get out there and Rock it !

What method and technique do you use to stretch the lines?
