Mountain Board with a Nasa Wing?

Just curious if any of you mountain board with a Nasawing? My first thoughts would be that it would be pretty tough to go upwind. Any videos? Pictures?

Cheers,

Dave

I can go upwind flying a nasa wing in a buggy. I would think you could do the same on a board.

I know Dirtslide got out with his NPW and mountian boards back in " the day " . Also poached back roads with him on his long board that way. D'sliddy has better kite skills than most but it can be done.

If you can beg / borrow a regular skateboard or longboard you should try that and see?

Flying off of the Bridles you can just pull it all in if a car passes or you go under power lines.

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Rides: Flexi / P.L. Frankin'Buggy , Shaped + straight skiis, sand skis, Coyote blades. Core 95 ATB. RKB R2 ATB .

Here is a pic of me boarding with a NPW5 300 a few years ago. That's about 7 square meters, and it works nicely in pretty low winds, coming directly from sea. Any other kind of angle would make it near-impossible to get back to the starting point though. Also, don't even think about jumping.

Me: Dutch Flyboarder ... but not the kind you\'re thinking of.
Power: PL Vibe 1.8 (1.9 mod) - PL Vibe 1.9 - PL Vibe 2.3 - PL Hornet 2.0 - PL Twister 4.1 - PL Twister 5.6
Wind Range: Riding: 11 - 38 knots. Jumping: 12 - 21 knots.
Ride: Trampa (14ply 35deg channels)
Wants: PL Reactor II 6.9 - PL Impulse TR 3.0
Former gear: Libre Dragonboard Sirius - PL Guerilla 13 - Flysurfer Speed I 10 - Ozone Manta II 10
Homemade: PL Vibe 1.8 - Star 6.0 (Depower) - 3 Nasawings - Pixie 1.5 (fun foil) - Flowform 3.0 (slk) - Frog (laundry)
Dilemma: If you work, you have money for kites but no time to fly them. If you don\'t work, you have plenty of time to fly kites, but no money to buy them. Either way, we\'re all screwed... :)

Cool... thanks for the photo.

I am still saving and looking for a new LEI for kiteboarding, but a good deal on a Core 95 (barely used) came up and it's really tempting... just wondering if its possible to use my homebrew NPW with it... looks like it is.

I knew upwind with a buggy was doable, but wasn't sure how tough it would be with a board. I'd love to get a Twister IIR to mountain board with but with two little kids and one on the way... well, money ends up going other places these days.

Anyone else have ideas/comments???

Cheers,

Dave

I would say it depends on your home spot, and a desire to jump. If you have a location you can ride in every direction, you can always ride 90 degrees from the wind and get back to your starting point with NPWs. If however your home spot is a narrow strip of beach, like mine is, it's pretty annoying since you really need the ability to get upwind when the wind isn't perpendicular to the direction you can drive. Don't get me wrong though, you can still ride in some kind of angle upwind, it's just really small compared to more advanced foil kites.

At one point i was planning to make a series of 8 NPW9bs, (cheapest kite quiver ever!) but that would only be useful if my home spot was a large grass field or a dry lake bed or something similar. Doesn't work on a narrow strip of beach.

use your nasa on the board till you can get a twister... then get a twister

you can learn the atb fundamentals on any kite, then take it up a notch when you can swing a more expensive kite! The twister is def worth its weight in kite-gold (or is it kite-weight in gold  )

i still love my twister on the board, comes out almost every session for one reason or another... and im still finding out new things that kite can do... i love it

@Drew: Thanks for commenting. Yah, I have read so much about the T2R and watched lots of videos... it just looks like a great kite. Based on what you said I am gonna go for the deal... that is if it looks as in great a shape as the pictures show. The T2R would also be great in the snow too!

@Pulsar: Your comment was very helpful... I do have lots of open space, so 90 degrees would be good enough, although I am sure I can do better than that.

Cheers!

Yes, going upwind on a mountain board with a Nasa is totally possible. Picked up a Core 95 last week (great deal) and have been out whenever the winds were good. After a day or two was going upwind pretty consistently, except when I was getting overpowered by some gusts... can't edge with a mountain board like you can on the snow or water.

Which brings me to another point... I love being out on the water and I liked the snow... but there is just something about being on land that I love... not sure what it is. Guess I feel more at home being a former bmx, motocross and mountain bike nut. Something about the dust and dirt that just gets in your soul or something. Now I just need some more kites!

Anyway, here's a few photos from one of the days. I have some video but its nothing exciting.

@ Shaggs

I need to find an excuse to come to Lloyd... as far as I know, nobody near me kites with a board. My sister lives in Edmonton... maybe she needs a visit... mmmm.

well I'm back in town next week and will be around always, unless I'm at work. Our winds are probably worse than yours though.

I think Regina has a fairly decent group of kiters, and Saskatoon I know has a group that frequents Diefenbaker Lake and the lake just by the old Black Strap Ski Hill. Just if you are looking for something closer. If you come this way let I'll try to be available. It seems to be real difficult for me to get together with anyone for some reason, I don't know why either:crazy:

Well there are lots of water peeps... but no land-boarders that I have come across. I should post on the Regina forum to find out... there must be somebody.

Let me know if you head this way for any reason.

Cheers,

D
