OK this is probably a stupid question, my guess is the answer is NO. But here goes anyway. Mountain board on Flea Bay MBS CJ-5 $36 bid right now
used but it has a handbrake. Now I'm not sure if I really want to get into the whole mountainboard thing but if I could pick something up cheap just
to see, would this thing work if I disabled or removed the brake? Or can this even be done?

Generally the brake can be removed. Deffo, in this case, since they say it doesn't work.
Now the real question..... how much do you weigh?
The CJ-5 was replaced by the Atom 80X. Depending on the year, the CJ-5 is only rated for 100 to 150 lbs. Unless you are a waifish European
supermodel (in which case, you should give your number to Chris, so he can get over Jessica Alba) or like the sound of maple delaminating, it might be
better to pass on this.

OK understand the weight rate thing and will do some research on the diff boards for the future... but does this mean that any board with a hand brake
could be used for kiteing if the brake is removed or disabled is some way shape or form?
Never mind reread your post Sorry!!!

Every board I have heard of with a brake, it has been removable. If it is so old that it is integrated and non-removable.... definitely a board to
pass up.
FWIW: There is an MBS Comp 95 up for on the Surfing Dirt Forum. It is physically located in North Carolina. Seller is open to offers. Message text
is as follow:
Hey guy's, I have a mbs comp 95, complete.
I bought it 3 or 4 years ago and haven't really used it at all.(mtn unicycling consumes me).
I'm not really up on the market or what it is worth so offers will be considered.
I'll post pics later...
Thanks for looking...

Nice board but I would probably be embarassed to offer him what I'd like to pay to see if Kiteboarding is something I can or want to get into at 56.

Hi Windhunter... I am close to your age (52) and have just started learning to ride a board under a kite. My friends think I am nuts, but that's ok
since we just have different ideas of what is fun. Adding some wheels under the kite opens up this whole new dimension of the sport. Get a helmet,
some pads, a board and I think you will enjoy the challenge.
A couple of Trainers,
Some Fixed Bridle Kites (1.2m - 14m),
and some Depower Kites (3m - 20m),
GI & MBS boards,
PL XR+ buggy w/ VTT upgrade kit.
that is a small board. a hand brake is not what you want. all i have seen are removable.
its just one more thing and its a distraction . also it crutches board control and kite handling. the "kite as brake" concept is the direction
you want. small redirects in the opposite direction of travel or idle at 12 til speed reduces with roll out .
a good practice drill....instead of just static fly , stand (balance on the board ) and control the kite . it will help you ID the "throttle" and
the "brakes" through balance.
