1st stop at Jekyll Island - Low wind skuds - nothin' to write home about
45 minutes after hitting town we were down at Jekyll Island to check things out. Not much for wind but we managed to get the 6.8m Viper up. Did
some static. My son Eric "Chips" did a couple of the up the nose camera peaks with the GoPro. We still gotta get used to that. Even though there
wasn't much wind it was always there. Not the off again on again gusty junk we are used to.
We had a nice hour of flying before we packed up and headed of for some eats.
Can someone post a list of good restaurants in the area? Thanks!!!
Unpacked and for got the brain buckets at the hotel.....
Goof,
Looks like you are flying early morning on a west wind- in the afternoon wind will shift to a seabreeze (180 degrees) most days and should pick up a
little more. As for eating- there was a bunch of raves about the pizza joint across from kite beach at the putt putt place. Other than that i cant
help you. Enjoy and i am sure some of the locals will pipe in soon on some eats and more info
Scott
its here in South Carolina...................16 to 18 mph side on at the moment. The forecast for JI doesnt look too promising this week in direction
or speed but can an will probably change......................when it gets too hot the wind just wont blow until later in the evening.............
Thanks for the link Tri...... That will be handy on the phone....
Finally found the wind meter in the parking lot next to Fins. Due to construction had to take the long way around to get there.
So got out at about 4:30PM today after a driving tour around the island to check out whats what. My son got the first flight on the 3.8m Reactor.
Seemed the right kite at the time. Didn't stay that way for long as winds quickly ramped up to close to 30mph.
With a mini sand storm going on my wife got the kids out of the water and packed up and off we went to supper. Didn't even get my turn on the kite
today. My son said it was to ballistic for me..... can you believe that???? All because of my first arc flight when he watched me get superman'd.
Now all he does is watch out for dad. I told him I had the 2.8 in the bag...... but still a bit much for that time frame. Everyone just took
off and left the beach so fast when that wind came in.
Hopefully Wednesday or Thursday will work out for Tridude and Angus. Those are the days we have specifically slated for flying. Need to give those
2 a call tomorrow and see what their schedules are looking like.
Boy with the tide in there is not much beach left to work with in that area after 4:30PM. Just like everyone had stated. I was farther south the
first day and there was enough to fly static, but not the squeeze play by Fins like today.
yes the tides are bass ackwards this week.....................as for me Im out..........my niece is staying with us for the week so it will be rock
wall climbing, movies, our pool, and the beach are on tap.......................................good winds and flying........................
