It's too hot

I haven't been kiting in weeks. Lowest high temp we've had this week is 106 with the humidity at almost 40%… and there is no chance of it cooling off. Why don't I go kiting in the morning? Because it's almost 100 degrees by noon. Not to mention, the wind during the summer is hardly even considered kiteable. Hope you all are living it up for me.

That's why getting in the water is so good ... although, last time I was at the ocean, the water was so warm that after an hour my fingers and toes looked like I'd been sitting in a hot bath too long

Dude it's only sweat - and a session lost is one you can never get back

Kami there is no water. Seriously. Our lakes are dry. It was 108 today… that's not something to mess around with. Last week two kids dropped over dead during their football practices. It's stupid hot, and the wind isn't even kiteable. Not worth it :(

Camelbak lol :P The wind always sucks. I've never even flown in clean wind before. But it's worse when instead of the wind being refreshing and invigorating, it feels like you're standing behind the afterburner of an F-16.

Lake Travis/Windy Point Park looks plenty wet and is less than an hour South of you.

At 3:00am temps dip down to the low 80's and winds are in the low double digits. You could be the next poster boy for Cyalume

Lake Travis is dangerous and the water level has receded hundreds of feet from it's normal shore line.

I might have to make the trip down to Zilker to do some night flying. Sounds like fun. :D I'm trying hard not to make excuses about not flying… but it's seriously been miserable. It really takes it out of you, especially when you work outside on a normal basis.

Feelin' yer pain bro. Here in Occupied Northern Mexico there is a reason everybody naps between noon and 3:00PM.

I'm on the 0500-0630 program or the 2300-0200 moon light program these days. Crap winds or not, if there's a sneeze, something is gettin' launched but, then again, I'm still rabid and stupid like that. Otherwise, it's hide-n-wait or sort gear in front of the swamp cooler on the patio. Tough summer this time around.

I seem to remember a thread on great places to live if you want to kite all the time and someone couldn't understand why I said I never wanted to go to Texas... :P

Seriously though, it's been hotter than normal almost everywhere here on the East coast. Inland it's been nearly 100 every day and here on the coast it's going up to 90 today with 75 - 90% humidity. The ocean has been the warmest it's been since I moved here, 82 degrees. That concerns me because hurricanes feed on warm ocean water and the NHC just changed their forecast to an above average hurricane season. While we're cooking here, I spoke with a buddy in Washington (state) and it's been the coldest Summer on record there. They barely made it to 80 so far this Summer. Everything so far is following exactly as predicted for global warming: hotter summers, colder winters, more violent storms. Humans really buggered up this planet good I'm afraid.

In West Texas, the kiting is probably heavenly. Miles and miles of open space and constant clean wind. Around here though, it's nasty. Please send a hurricane our way. A nice Cat 3 or so. That should help out a bit. As far as global warming goes, I think you've been watching too much TV :P

The heat is my excuse
But it gets so hot here it messes with the wind u get 7-12 gusting to 30
That was the forecast yesterday and I was talking about living near the coast in Texas the guys down there haven't missed a day on the water for months now but where I am at in the desert it isn't that great except the cash oh Yeh
Getting out of debt at a blistering pace.
Been doing a lot of night Kiting at ten or so the wind is kicking and the temp is still 95 degrees
Ha ha I know exactly what the wind is like when it is so hot that the wind is no longer a reprieve but like sticking your face in the hand drier from the bathroom

I feel your pain Seanny, but I'll trade humidity and dew point levels with Texas any day. 80% humidity and dew points hovering near 70 = Instant sweat machine just sitting in one spot. It's been very jungle like here lately with no wind to speak of. A few days with the rev here and there, but that's it. I shouldn't complain because in a few months I'll be getting the skis ready.

I know you guys in Wisconsin and on the east coast have been getting walloped with humidity. I know the feeling. It's the worst in the deep south, like Florida. Step outside and it's like a sauna. :P Even here though, it was 107 yesterday with 60% humidity… that makes the heat index like 114, easily. Bleh. It's no help that there isn't any wind :( and if there is, it's the same story with Looking_Up over in Midland… 7 gusting to 30.

I thought you guys were just whining, but that's some serious heat. We get 106 today but the dewpoint is 32F which gives a humidity level of 10% and "feels like" 99.

It has been really hot here in NW Oklahoma too. The other day the wind was nice (good speed and direction) but it was 110 with a heat index of around 114 so I didn't fly. I am not positive about this but I think for the month of July, Oklahoma set the record for highest average temp for any state ever. Looking forward to fall.

We've been kiting at Lake Pflugerville every night this week, usually from ~sunset until midnight. We actually had 6 kites on the water 2 nights ago! We put glowsticks on our kites, harnesses, and boards so we're very easy to see. Air and water temps are perfect and the waxing gibbous moon illuminates the water fairly well so you can see the wind/gusts across the water. We've seen at least one shooting star every night we've been out there, too!

I'm not sure if you ride on water but you're welcome join us out there tonight.
