Heel straps

I've never had heel straps on a buggy but I must say that it adds a HOOJ level of security being most certain that your feet aren't going to get jarred off the pegs and get folded under the seat. Riding in the Apexx is a very secure feeling to begin with, but I really notice that with straighter legs than I've ever ridden with, I would feel even more vulnerable without the heel straps. These could be added onto virtually any buggy too. Ozzy pointed out not to wear boots with heels big enough to wedge between the strap and footpeg which could prevent you coming loose if all goes really wrong.

Where can I buy heel straps? I don't recall seeing them on any vendors websites. Thanks!

I made my heel straps out of a waist strap from a tool bag. You can buy just the straps themselves from lowes for about 8 bucks. Put a couple of grommets on either end to put bolts through! Turned out real nice for less than 15 bucks.

Not to take away from any one that sells them, we don't! I can make you up a set and send them to you for postage and cost of materials if you like.

More often than not, people seem to make their own. A few layers of seat belt webbing and possibly a denser layer for the purposes of stiffening them, and you should be good to go.

Strapworks is a good source for both flavors.

Steve Hall from Chico Kites could also get you sorted for webbing.

I actually have some 2" seatbelt webbing lying around so I'll just make them myself. Thanks for the offer Rich!

Essential bit of kit. Mine are now seatbelt webbing with an extra bit sewn on to stiffen them. Tri-glides for adjustment and securing. This is a pic of an earlier setup that worked well except the rubber perished too soon so I moved to webbing....

There was a nasty accident here last year in QLD when going reasonable fast in a Vmax, a bump was hit which resulted in the foot bouncing up and off the footrest, hitting the ground and being forced under the buggy. A very nasty broken leg. I much prefer the heel straps to the straps that go over the foot - I figure if I want to deliberately 'eject' myself from the buggy, I don't want to have to worry about my feet being caught up.

I made mine with just webbing and grommets like Rich describes... very simple but works well. Could be used in heel or toe strap position.

Yup, I am re-designing the foot pegs on the Ivanpah to include heel straps. The new version should be available in about a month. I got a new project that is being finished up right now. Once it is completed, the new foot pegs will be built. They will be a simple bolt on option for all existing Ivanpah buggies.

I just used some simple webbing and some rope. Nothing pretty but does the trick. I'll get some pics in the next day or two as I begin the prepack for SOBB. The only issue I had was the stock XR+ footpegs have these plastic butts on the ends of them with a screw. The screw makes a great place to attach but the right and left don't both sit the same way. One's a little twisted compared to the other.
