Hello!

Hello, I wanted to introduce myself. I live in Charlotte, NC and I'm getting involved in kite buggying! I'm a nationally ranked BMX racer and like to race/ride Motocross. I have been flying kites for 15 years, but have just purchased my first traction kite. I bought a Prism Tensor 5 meter kite. I really like it, however have learned the kites aren't that good. Will probably go with a Peter Lynn. I'm looking for advice on Buggies, spreader bar,(whatever that is) harness. Thanks and I look forward to learning from the pros.!

Hi Power and welcome to your new addiction!

Much like wolf, I'm curious to know what you didn't like about th tensor. If advice is what youre looking for, boy did you come to the right place! Make sure you check out the guide to new power kiters in the kites and accessories section. It's a sticky post up top. Don't hesitate to ask questions here, the whole PKF family is a friendly bunch!

Indigo, I loved the kite. I used to fly a 4 sail train with 100 ft lines, old sckool. I then moved to a prism stylus 2.8 which I flew for 5 years,(two line). I love the best of everything. The local kite shop at the beach had this 5 meter kite. Just had to have it. paid $450. My first time of flying we had a storm come in quick. It was the first time I flew with a bar. much slower that hand straps on the 2.8 stylus. Anyway it picked me up 5 feet jerked me around and dragged me 10 feet down the beach.:wow: It happeded so quick, I couldnt even let go quick enough. Everyone who was watching came up to me and asked If I was ok. It was a trip, and to be honest I loved it, the power I mean. I have been speaking with a man on the west coast, with Kite Buggy speed shop. very informative. He was the one who told me the quality of the Tensor wasnt up to the quality of the Peter Lynns.:( I think it rocks. He also told me I should go with a Libre V Max II buggy. I pick up things quick and love great quality. Money really isnt a factor, but want something that will be safe for me. He also said I should get a 3 meter to learn on with a buggy. I'm 210 pounds and 6 feet tall.

If you have already hooked up with John from the Kite Buggy Speed Shop you are already well on your way.

A 3M definitely would be a nice addition and safer when the winds kick up.

I also think you will be happier with the Tensor, if you switch the Tensor to control handles instead of the bar.

The instructions for converting the bar to control handles can be found here.

Also the Tensor lets you control the Angle of Attack (power) on the kite for varying wind conditions. The instructions for those adjustments can be found here.

ATB,
Sam

Yes like indigo said switch to the handles on the tensor. The tensor is plenty good of a kite for you to learn on. You will also benefit from a good 3m kite like the Peter Lynn viper if buggy riding is your focus.
The 3m and 5m combo is a excellent beginning to your kite quiver .... and before you ask no the sylus 2.8 is not close to the same as a viper 3m :)

As far as buggies go you can also consider the Ivanpah, Apexx, MG Aero, and the Peter Lynn .. although the peter lynn is not in the same category as the rest but priced accordingly and easy to transport.

Go with a Flexifoil Scout before a Peter Thin. Lower price and way more buggy for your dough.

I did not mention the scout, because they are currently out of production. Not sure when / if they will be available again. I agree they are a good buggy but you will need to find a shop who has one left sitting around or find one on the used market.

You mean a kite bike?

_

Although there are certainly others, Weldngod, PTW and Gannet are the only folks that I know of that ride them. They seem to be more popular in the UK and Europe.

Here are some earlier PKF posts:And yes, they can go fast: New Kite Bike Record

Hold on there powerws maybe you misunderstood what I said about kites, not knowing anything about the Tensor I recommended the Peter Lynn products that would fit your needs and are a quality product. I also recommended you buy the used VMax on this forum as it was a great price. Sure I missed the sale, but it looked like the right fit for you at this time in your buggy adventure.

Not if they insist on embedding SPAM hyperlinks in their sig lines that have absolutely nothing to do with power kiting.

Post reported as SPAM.
