Trying to figure out which harness to use

I will be purchasing a buggy and an ATB. My question is do you need to have a harness for each? From my research you need a waist harness for ATB, due to the attachment point being higher. The buggy harness is better suited for a seat harness, but need one that doesn't have a buckle in the back or sides. Thanks for continued help and advice. Man I've learned a lot from this community. I ride ATB and I wear a seat harness. Ozone Access XC. It's like a well-padded climbing harness.

Many people here swear by the PeterLynn Divine harness, it does look quite nice.

You only need a harness if you are going to be:
  1. Flying depower.

  2. Using the Ozone Turbo Bar to fly a fixed bridle kite.

  3. Wanting to take some of the strain off your armd by using something like a strop for control handles or a D-Loop/control bar harness strap (i.e. something like this or this) for a standard x-over or fixed bridle control bar. A quick release with either of these is a really, really.... really good idea.

With regards to harness selection..... there are no rules. In a buggy, you might want a little less padding.... if seating accomodations are a tight fit. Other than that, it's all personal preference. Buckle placement should be important regardless. What you don't sit on, you can fall on.

Are you near any of the other PKF members where you might be able to try out different gear? I remember you said that you weren't particularly close to any of the brick & mortar stores.

ATB,
Sam

I have both the Ozone Access SB and the Dakine Speed seat. I think the Speed seat is a tad more comfortable but the Ozone is better put together and it has a pad under the spreader bar which I don't have on the Dakine (but I believe is available). I can't see why you couldn't use the Ozone for just about everything. I buggy in mine all the time and Spartan uses his for his skates. I've also used my old tree surgeons harness to good effect too.....

I would not buy just a waist belt type though - I like being able to put some of the load under my bum and legs - particularly if I'm doing a little jumping.

I have both styles and both work.

The waist harness rides up when stand up riding a bit . The waist harness holds things down but my spreader can irritate my lower ribs at times.

My seat harness is actually designed for either waist or seat. It's a Mystic and I am pleased with it.

Avoid harnesses with a bulky seat if using it for buggy.

Got it! Very informative! I need to know the whole picture and as far as buggies, ATB's and harnesses, I have a very good starting point. There is a lot to know. I will be flying this weekend with my 3 and 5m and simply can't wait. Especially the new Ozone Method. I will be putting out my cones and working my body and perfecting the technique. I do love flying and this simply takes it to another level. What does the future hold?............................ Kite surfing, de-powers, and harnesses! Man I love this sport. I hope you guys will be at the WWBB in October. I look forward to meeting you all. Thanks Again! W3
