The Mayor of Buggytown
Howdy Buggy-Brethren,
Welcome to Buggytown.
Hope you enjoy your visit with us.
We've been waiting all year for you!
Here's the basics for a fun-filled week.
First the don'ts.
Don't speed on the playa (I mean in your car).
Limit is 30 mph.
No motorized vehicles out on the playa.
We drive (slowly) along the shoreline down to buggytown.
Trash is a problem.
The wind blows things away.
No cigarette butts on the playa.
No buggying past the access road.
Camps and cars only on the shore side of the access road.
No speed runs through the pits.
Essentially if we act like we know what we're doing, we have less interference from outside agencies.
If we act responsibly to keep problems from arising, we get to continue to play together.
The good stuff:
Most of the folks you've heard stories about...
The people there at the beginning of this sport...
The innovators and fabricators...
The hard-core, dedicated riders...
The casual cruisers...
The beginners, the intermediates and the advanced riders...
They'll be here.
We find ourselves in a family of buggiers.
A family of kiters.
Come together to worship the wind.
Last year saw 20-30 camps in buggytown.
From an individual with a tent to 5th Wheelers and RVs.
Nightly stories around the camp fire are just the beginning.
Shot-car rallies are held frequently and laughter is heard day and night.
Buggytown welcomes you.
We're excited that you're coming to LIVE here again.

Just in case there are lurkers here, and there may be, and you haven't gone down to the mayors office, please, you owe it to your self. Be open,
but don't go with expectations or a hand full of gimmee and a mouthful of much obliged.
The mayor likes Bushmills, and always, very fine, blue agave' tequila. Yes that's right, burnables, for sure.
Remember, anyone from the Dali Lama, to Hunter S. Thompson would be comfortable at the mayors place. It's out of the way, but worth the trek.
Sometimes stories take so long you can stop by, come back later, and the same story will just be winding up(or down).
Come with an open mind, and you will be richly rewarded. Larger than life? No, just down to earth.
Enjoy!

That is plain hilarious. I Love the "confident" expression too.
When we have Buggytown, The Mayor always holds court at City Hall.
Just bring your shot car, a chair and an open mind.
Cheers!!!

Hizzoner, the Mayor
Jeez, I miss living in Vegas, where I could visit the Mayor just anytime I wanted to. Ask Hizzoner about some of our 9-hour buggy sessions, with all
of Ivanpah to ourselves... it's a magickal place we've got here.
On a serious note... I have in my possession the "Official" AKA First Aid Kit, and past experience as a Fire Department Ambulance Attendant and
military clinical technician, so if anyone gets hurt, look in my camp... I'll leave the First Aid Kit on my wooden table, right outside my van.
Also, if anyone else has more recent medical certification or occupation, please let the organizers know, at the big white tent, so that we know who
to look for if something serious happens. If you think it can't happen, visit the campfire for the famous Lake Superior Evening Helicopter Evacuation
Event Story. We need to know who has the right skills and the right equipment, so we're not floundering around in an emergency.
That's enough outta me. :D

Loyal Buggytown Citizens,
I am reminded that perhaps one more mention should be made of how we build buggytown.
It is important that the early arrivers, I'm speaking to the campers, establish camp up beside the access road.
Not back by the brushline.
Buggytown exists to provide a buffer between where the cars drive, on one side and the open playa, where buggies roam.
We understand this is one potential hazard we can eliminate by thinking and planning ahead.
Typically Buggytown evolves around the tent, with cars parked on both side and behind it, and camps beginning just past that.
The "pits" describe the area just in front of the tent and camps, on the playa side of the access road, where all kite and buggy set-up activities
take place.
There will be numerous stakes and pegs in the ground in this area.
Some ribbon or flagging on your stake is helpful for you, and the rest of us too.
Be very careful driving in and out of Buggytown.
By the way, local practice is to bag your kite when you stop in the pits.
Leaving your lines staked with an inflated kite is a hard-to-see, ankle-high hazard, for guests and buggiers.
Winds shift and change.
Plan on it.
Ohh... One more thing...
In theory, Hunter S. Thompson IS welcome at my camp.
But, he is dead and his ashes have been shot into the sky with fireworks over a high Colorado meadow.
I'd be more likely to entertain the Dalai Lama.
In theory.
You're welcome to stop by, though.
The Flamingo Flag is already flying.

Howdy Citizens of Buggytown,
Just returned from a jaunt to Ivanpah to watch the landsailers.
What a sight!!!
30-40 boats, in a big group out in the playa, the pilots standing around talking about racing.
I watched them as I buggy'd.
Eventually they got going.
The main tent (which we'll use next week) isn't as far down the lakeshore as before. BLM regs have closed the end of the lakebed to cars and camping.
We can sail the whole thing, but cars and camping have been moved up to Staging Area 2.
I noticed how little thought was apparent in how their camp grows.
The line of cars and trailers was about 30' back from the access road.
I watched cars drive in front - through their "pits" - and circle around behind.
It was an accident situation waiting to happen.
So a timely reminder, especially the early arrivers, to keep the camps and vehicles up next to the access road.
Cars and camps on the shore-side of the access road, "pits" (buggies & kites) on the lake-side.
There is plenty of room to get into and out-of the pits without interfering with any races or events. We've got tons of space.
The WELCOME mat is out.
We're sprucing everything up, excited about your visit.
Oh Gosh... Welcome Home!
