This is a further refinement of what I need regularly to ride on Ivanpah. I imagine there might be a time that I could use this kite, but if it's the kite I need that day, I probably don't make the drive to ride. I'm adding a Vapor to the quiver and it will be more useful than this big girl so she should go to a home that needs her regularly. This kite is a powerhouse starting at about 7 mph and it can run up into the low teens. This kite is a much faster turner than the 10.8 and can make power by sining the kite. This kite's last run was last October on Jekyll Island with Angus and I running together for miles and miles. Kite and wind were perfectly matched that day topping out at about 31 mph with winds of 10-12 IIRC. This kite hasn't flown more than 5-6 times and that is either on grass at the sod farm in NorCal or on the sandy beach. No playa dust on this one. I can unfold for pics if you like, but other than a few grains of sand, I'm not sure you could tell it from new. This kite is the Red and Orange color scheme which is no longer available

The difference between the 10.8 and 8.6 is really only 2-3 mph of bottom end. The 8.6 is more rewarding to buggy with because it reacts SO much faster. If you can get moving with it, you just feel the speed build and build. This kite can be a day saver if your current big kite is 5 to 7m. Imagine going to the trouble to ride and the weather man missed it by 4 mph. This kite can let you have fun down to realistically 7 mph, with the possibility of going a little lower.

sorry for the hijack Bob, It was a GREAT KITE! Right up until things went horribly wrong. Hint: It WILL drag you further downwind in a down loop powerslide than you would think.....

The torque really amazed me with this one. It was content to either roll me or slide me sideways. my choice. Particularly if it was going to pass all the way across the window.

Thanks for checking but I've already bought a 2.7m Vapor that's on the way. I'm just covering costs to appease house ways and means. (Stole that one from Angus) I'll keep the RIIs I have now from 5.5 and down unless I completely convert over to Vapors which is a possibility after I take one for a ride.

Bobby, how do you think that 8.6 would compare to the Blurr 7? You know the gusty OOBE Field and all. I know wind range is better but what about the power up, gust handling, etc. Yup , I still fly alone since my kite buddy left for greener pastures , and I hate getting spanked when I'm alone...

(That last statement sooo lends itself to speculation :wow: )

Chris, when I was flying in the same conditions as you and travelling to go to kite destinations, I told Angus that I couldn't afford to NOT have this kite in addition to the Blurr. This kite goes when the 7m Blurr leaves you sitting still. You wouldn't want to fly it when its 7 gusting to 20, but those days when the Blurr isn't quite enough, this kite saves the day. It's not a kite to be feared either. The RIIs like you to know what you're doing to get the most out of them but they don't jump around in the sky and make you pay attention all the time. Just feather in or out some brake pressure to max out the power.

I'm taking the high road on the spanking comment, but have you seen where I live? It's buggy heaven for sure, but I wouldn't call it green! :smug:
