EDIT of all edits- thank you, csa. Kind of funny- how does anyone on here refer to people whom they are on a first name have a beer with basis? User name or real one? Just curious.

Reasons for selling- tired of different battery packs, want to go gopro 3-d, and don't much care for POV video which is where the contour really shines (lower profile than a gopro by a sugnificant margin.) The mounts for the contour share components, the camera rotates 270 degrees in the same mounting position, and it has lasers to aim it. The main draw back is that it does not like high contrast situations (think full sun at NABX.) Put A filter in it and you are fine. Does not have to be used in the housing and the body is aluminum.

I'm trying to avoid buying this :o

What's wrong with the batteries?

IMHO we should refer to people by username cos it excludes those of us who don't know first names or have a terrible memory and get them mixed up :ticking:

OK, but the three of us are all friends on facebook, and csa and I are beach buddies. Hence the confusion. And absolutely nothing wrong with the batteries (matter of fact, I'm not entirely sure I have used both of them, and they are lithium ion so they are pretty hard to screw up.) I know, pusher. I have about $400 in it, just not the direction I want to go. High contrast and vibration are not its friend, but several nice features. The vid from the housing comes out nicely, too. I tied it to an inner tube and shot some small rapids in a nearby river. Nice footage.

I think heliboy50 meant he was tired of the differing battery packs--not that the batteries were tired.

Not that I have ever met heliboy50 or his battery packs, but I had the same initial mis-read.

Funny, I had to read it a few times before I got it. Gopro vs contour, different packs and 1.5 different chargers. If they used the same battery and card, I would keep it.

Any idea what the rating is for the underwater housing? I may be in the market for a UW HD camera and it doesn't have to be a Go Pro for what I want to do.

Looks like they only rate it to 33'. Would work for snorkeling and shallow free diving, but that's about it.

Different packs. I really just want more flexibility. With 2 gopros I could standardize packs, mounts, chargers, do some 3d, etc.

Batteries in GoPro's are really tough to change out - when you clip them in for the first time, you go "Oh dang that sounded permanent how would I ever get it back out?"
I mostly charge my GoPro by USB, in the car or in the house. Buy a separate plug-in USB charger (1A at least) and use that ... don't use your PC it's been known to fry the camera.

Does the HD charge from USB too? Or like our silly Xacti, do you have to remove the battery?

hmmm... I am really liking this, and really want it. If no-one steps up in the next 3 days (by tuesday) let me know. I might have to sell a kite to buy it, but I was looking at getting one anyways.

Btw, which model of the contour is this? (sorry, brain is still a little scotch soaked right now)

@ Kamikuza- either way for charging. I like to charge both at once, one in the camera and one on the wall charger. I hear you on the gopro batt install. You have to watch what you are doing. I don't like having to use finger nails to remove, although there is a little fix for that.

@flash - inside back cover says model 1300

The contour was ready and fully functional when it came out. Needs better documentation, which they seem to have fixed in more recent models. Gopro seems to get things to market faster and iron out bugs with firmware updates. Both cameras have their strong points. The contour is lower profile, you can program the resolution selector switch inside the back cover, so going to your second resolution is faster. The gopro can shoot stills, stream to a tv, and mounting kits are cheaper. Pros and cons for each.

tee hee... wait till i get the camera! and yes I will load the footage with way to many stupid stunts perhaps owning up to why I am known as a naked buggy chick. :) Honestly I am going to have to do some tricky camera angels b/w this one and all of the others as I don't really look at myself a lot when I ride.
