Hey Guys,

I know this is not the right section but i need some feedback asap. I have an opportunity to buy a 7m Cabrinha Convert IDS Kite only, locally... Not sure how someone local got their hands on such a kite however there it is in my local classifieds, perhaps washed up on the beach when the guy was out seal hunting (read: clubbing LOL).

I am not familiar with the IDS system, will this work on any 4-line bar with equal length lines?... Thanks in advance!

Apparently he also has the bar but no lines, chicken loop or anything, just a bar...

Me neither , but here's what Google turns up until someone with first hand experience chimes in.

The 2012 Cabrinha Quicklink IDS Bar & Lines is spendy at roughly $425. There is a special Centerline Adjustment System (bungee based) that runs $60 by itself, but is included with the bar.

On the plus side, it's a very nice looking bar setup with lots of bells and whistles.



Cabrinha has a compatibility chart of what kites work with what bars (mostly their current and legacy bars).

The Quicklink Bar Manual has a section on how to trim the bar which is information that you should be able to use to set up a standard bar for use with the kite.

To be absolutely sure, if you have a list of bars that you had in mind, you can always contact Cabrinha to verify. They seem to limit contact to emails.

I demo'd the 2012 IDS system a couple months ago. Cabrinha bar systems have always been kind of funky IMHO and the 2012 is probably the funkiest to date. The rubber ends are absolutely huge making the bar look kind of like a high tech doggie bone, but it worked fine when I used it. The rep explained that the huge rubber ends were because people were complaining they were getting hurt while doing tricks. I wouldn't know. I don't recall what the line lengths are supposed to be but you can probably contact Cabrinha and find out. It's a 4 line kite so it shouldn't be that hard to sort out.

The IDS needs a long throw on the bar ... I suppose it COULD work with other bars, like the Naish Shift but I wouldn't want to depend on it.

Get the OEM bar for the kite, it's easier in the long run ... if you want, PM me and I'll give you the mail address of my Cab dealer who does EXCELLENT deals on gear!

I sort of thought with the bit of reading I did that the IDS had something to do with the flying characteristics and the "sheetability" or "absolute depower" as Cabrinha calls it. I think I am going to pass up on the kite as its not a great deal if I have to go buy the control system...

It's good ... let go the bar, your 90% totally depowered. I love it ... good system, works well. I can't ever see a need for a 7m though

I confirmed the guy insists the kite washed up on the beach along with the IDS bar (no lines or chicken loop) lol.

How does a kite wash up on the beach and the bar (with no lines to attach it to the kite) washes up on the beach next to it lol.

Anyway, i picked it up next to new for $200.00 with the bar (no lines or chicken loop)

BTW Kami, its gonna be a HIGH wind kite for me (@ 200lbs) and a first depower kite for my 105lb wife as she is lookin to move up from my beamer :D
