Snowkite Calendar 2012

The evolution of Snowkiting continues and has come full circle in the past decade. In the coming 2012 winter season it seems the mentality to Freeride continues to dominate this amazing pastime. It seems the general feeling is to abandon the words tour, event, sponsors & competition, and simply embrace Freeriding at great Snowkite Destinations with whoever believes in supporting the locals that host these gatherings at their favorite places to ride.

Here is a list of calendar dates, each chosen by local hosts that organize gatherings at their local spots. These dates are typically chosen based on the most consistent and predictable times of year to ride at the given location. Every place has its own spice and fun to offer and every Snowkite destination will bring riders together before and after, chasing down conditions at the spot, around the spot, and along the way.

Everything is subject to change, and nothing is in stone when you are relying on the mighty combination of wind and snow, but here are a few known options in addition to your own tick lists and adventurous dreams…

Date - Sweet Destination - Hosting Organizer

January 14-16 Tugg Hill, New York - Lewis County Kiters
January 28-29 Jackson Hole, Wyoming - Jackson Hole Kiters
February 3-5 Eagle Nest Lake, New Mexico- Desert Wind Kiteboarding
February 4-5 Skyline, Utah- Windzup, Snowkite Masters Crew
February 7-9 Durango, Colorado- DMC crew (Windzup & SKA)
February 11-12 Lake Dillon, Colorado- Colorado Kite Force
February 17-20 Jackson Hot Springs, Montana- Montana Kite Sports
February 18-19 Strawberry, Utah- Super Fly Crew
February 25-26 Lake Champlain, Vermont- Kite Storm Crew
February 25-26 Camas Prairie, Idaho- Snowkite Soldiers Crew

It is easy to also imagine, based on weather and the insane amount of stoke Snowkiting creates, that there will be riders of various abilities rallying and riding before and after each given calendar date… get on the road and ride!

There are many websites with overlapping calendars… this is meant to be the beginning of a general calendar, hoping to gain a wide audience and participation, outside of the many Facebook collaborations that you may or may not be a part of.

Email me directly if you have a date or location to add, or just to chat about my favorite sport… SNOWKITING!!! info@windzup.com

Tanks for the list. Snowkite Soldier falls at an inopportune time for me but Feb 4-5 looks plausible.
