Looking for buggy spots within an hours drive

Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, CT looks cool but it's still too far for a quick buggy ride after work, it's 2hrs away. I live on the Hudson river just North of the Tappan Zee Bridge in Croton on Hudson, NY. I moved here recently and I miss having an open area nearby. I love the North East but damn there are a lot of trees out here.

Does anyone know of any spots to fly in my area? In the meantime I'm looking at my local area on topo maps for possible spots. Maybe the beaches in Southern Connecticut?

Looking at google maps, Croton Point Park looks like it is a large open area, also looks to have a small section of sand beach at the north end. I'd check it out.

Looking at Croton Point County Park a little closer on google maps, it looks like maybe the large open area is successive mounds, higher in the middle? Maybe this was once an old landfill? Anyway, the terrain looks rough and scruffy, but that sand beach at the north end of the park looks to be 300+/- Meters of smooth riding on a NW wind.

EDIT: Looked again, maybe not mounds, but a depression? :dunno:

Thanks, sounds good to me let me know the next time you plan to go to Keansburg or Island Park Beach.

Croton Point Park looked good but the park won't allow buggies. Maybe I should learn how to kite surf; it's perfect for that and is only 8 minutes from my house.

I've been looking all along the coast there, so far it seems the most promising might be the Greenwich Point Park, it has both an east and west exposure, but I fear that in your neck of the woods, you might run into buggy bans all over. (sad) The population density along the coast there might make it too risky for municipalities to allow such pastimes. Now, if you were to be a member of an organization that provides education to its members, promotes the safe participation of our sport, as well as provides identification through it's member's license/buggy number, and insurance for sanctioned events, an organization like NAPKA, you might be able to use the organization to sway the Legislators of said municipalities to allow sanctioned events in areas like the Croton Point County Park. Sanctioned events can include practice/training for any members that can attend, even one, as I understand it. Cheezycheese (Marc) is just up the road from you in Poughkeepsie, maybe he could help establish the Hudson Valley Chapter!

Hey Van,

Crazy busy summer. I was only home for two weeks of it. Flew when I could but it's never enough. If I can break away from here I plan to be there (WBB Fall 2011). The VTT Buggy is a great ride, I love! I had it out at Wildwood last week at the AKA Convention. Lots of kite flyers were asking about it.

Hope to see you there!
