Mood: pray for wind

Southern Maine

Hi All,
I have always wanted to kitesurf, having been to Hatteras several times and watched alot down there. I have been flying a trainer for several years and this year my wife gave me a prism tensor 3.1, MBS Core 90 package from kitty hawk kites for my birthday. Great gift. I love it, been flying and riding on York and Ogunquit beaches here in Maine. Just got some more Pansh kites, price was right, and a Cabrinha Switchblade III. Looking forward to snowkiting this winter. Thing is I would love to see some other people do this as I am sure I have lots to learn. Any ideas as to where I might find some other kiters.

Thanks to everyone
Craig

Mood: even when I have time to kite, I don't have time to kite

Until the lakes freeze most people around Eastern Mass and NH buggy and landboard at Nahant beach near Lynn Mass.

Access to fields around Boston is a big issue but once the lakes freeze people are all over the place. Join us at Nahant when there's low tide and east or west winds.

I love Nahant but rarely get there anymore.

Anybody planning on being at Nahant Sat or Sun morning? Think wind should be up, according to sailflow. Tides are early and late. What is the best wind direction there.

Thanks
Craig

East is best. West is Good. Dead south or north is crap.

See this thread for info on others looking to come riding at Nahant http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=19739

I'm going to try for Sunday and will email you Sat night if I still plan to go. Gusts may be over twice the average wind speed which may be too much for me. Here's a link to the local weather. Best winds are east or west so you can ride the length of the beach.

Craig

I am planning on going to Nahant on Saturday morning. If the forecast for strong winds happens, I am sure that I will not be alone. This time of year the forecast can change a lot in a few days; we will have a more accurate idea of what to expect on Friday.

Please let me know if you decide to come down, it would be great to fly with you.

Dan

I think I will try to make it Saturday morning if the wind is right. I have to help a friend move on Sunday and will need to stay closer to home. Hope to see you there. Doneski maybe another time.

Thanks
Craig

I am thinking about trying to make a trip to Nahant this weekend. It has been a long long time since I've been there and I have kited only 1 time in the past year (very sad I know). I am free on both Saturday and Sunday and would like to come down the day with the best conditions or the day with the most old kiting comrades there.

It has been so long since I kited that I am now on a new laptop and I lost all my old wind forcast links so I don't even know how to get a handle on the forcast. If anyone has a good meter or some links for area conditions please post them up!

Hopefully I will not wuss out and I will see some kiters Saturday or Sunday this weekend. Maybe I will start a new thread.

Mainekite, I didn't snowkite at all last year but hope to get out much more this year. I live right next to a lake that has decent kiting. The problem with snowkiting on lakes is that it seems to take a minor miracle for all of the conditions to come together.....ice + snow + wind. Usually it seems that after a good snowfall a layer of slush develops between the ice and snow which freezes to your skis and kills your session. Plus the winter winds are so up and down and can be very angry at times.

I think there is a good maine contingent of snowkiters, but I can't remember what lake they use up there. Try doing a search of this forum. It might be Long Lake??

The winds are looking good for both Saturday and Sunday and the rain is supposed to stop, here is the extended forecast:
Quote:
Sat and Sun are showing the most potential for the extended period
On track this morning...

The strong complex low pressure system will take its time slowly lifting N up into Canada. It will interact with high pressure to our S for Sat and Sun. Mon sees a fast moving weak low pressure system approach from the W and transition through our area.

Saturday:
SW winds in the low to mid 20s common all areas. Well exposed sites should push higher. Cape sites may push into the 30s

Sunday:
W / SW winds in the upper teens / low 20s for MA and RI. CT sees mid to upper teens and Cape sites tap the mid to upper 20s

Monday:
Westerly winds in the low teens at best fade and turn more SW in the afternoon

Forecast above prepared by meteorologist Dave Breckenridge.
I will be out on Saturday morning 7 to 8 ish. Low tide is at 7:40 so if the wind is mostly westerly it will be ride able to noon.

Craig, email or U2U me if you have any questions.

Adam, it has too long since you last kited, you just have to get out more. Try to make it down this weekend, it looks the conditions will be good.

Ouch, didn't realize that tides were so early this weekend. That might be tough. I think I am just over 1:30 away now (part of the reason of my Nahant absence) and I am not at all a morning person so I'm not sure I will be able to swing it this weekend. But I'll think about it and I'm resolving to get out kiting more often whether this weekend or another soon.

Mainekiter I am now just about as close to Maine beaches as I am to Nahant and I like the drive to ME better so maybe I will come up and ride with you sometime if you have any good beaches to ride. I've only ridden at Wells beach once. It was okay, but wind wasn't great that day and I had to carry gear a loooooong way from the parking lot.
