Light wind Flysurfer technique questions .....

I try 15m Psycho4 on water today with winds dropping to minimum ......
I have problem with water lunch ..... after getting started and gaining some speed apparent wind was kicking in and make that kite unstoppable .......
At water lunch I try to do 2 power strokes ........ first one to get me out of water and 2nd to get me going ...... problem is that after first stroke kite was back stalling and dropping me back in water ..... few times I manage to move kite quick enough to get to 2nd stroke ..... however ...... strap have to be at half power and there is no place for mistake .....
My thought is that making 2 loops on one side of power window would resolve back stilling issue and get me going ... ....
..... any ideas ??? if that works ??? any other pointers ???

Thanks

Konrad

Trim the kite so it doesn't back stall. When the kites are at the bottom of their range, they'll back-stall no matter what you do sometimes though :( go REALLY easy on the bar!
Check the power lines too, they should have been tuned to the correct length but may have stretched or the knot tightened a bit more.

Yes you can loop the kite but it'll haul you downwind fast so make sure you have the room it out then turn upwind ...

dive the kite hard, in these situations i yank one turning line to turn very fast. ( i have a 17m speed)

dont pull the bar all the way if it set to back stall.

Rather than diving the kite down to do a water start, try going across the window more. So for a start to the left, kite at twelve, move it slightly to the right 1 or2 and then across to the left. Also not thinking about getting up on the board helps with low wind. Let the kite pull you across and off the water with little weight on the board. You will start planing earlier and get more out of your first stroke. With light wind riding, you want weight in the harness and the board flat until you gain apparent speed. Also like the guys said don't pull in the bar much. Steer to get power. I had the bad habit of using the bar as a pull up out of the water. Check line lengths as mentioned above and start with the trim strap at half. That has been my experience with the SA 2 19.

0:30 in you can see the loop start but for the love of god, don't let PMU, snobdr or Dimitri see this guy pulling the leader lines  I never do unless the kite is going into the water ... better to keep the kite moving and building speed :)
Basically, the loop is sending the kite right through the wind window from one side to the other - like AD72 says - directly through the power-zone c.f. a regular start that just skims the P-Z ...

One of my favourite FSer videos ... good sized airs and good first-person view gave me some pointers

THANKS !!!!!!

.... That exactly what I was planning to do except I didn't think of manual pull to turn kite and was expecting that I need 2 kite loops.....
...... When next time on water I will try to practice this technique if wind is low ...... I assume there is no way to relunch kite from water in those conditions ???

Kamikuza .... second video I watch many time before .... awesome ..... Dimitri ??? from G.H. ??? why ???

Please ..... If anyone else have some more pointers please share ......

AD72 is right, thats what i meant to say. fly across the window. HUGE POWER is in that zone

That is the first time I have seen the downloop to start. I must give that a try too.
The jumps are cool in the second video. What bugs me is that he has a board leash while flying 20 feet in the air. The water looks deep enough to walk back to the board.

Reverse launch is the method you use with the Speeds - near as I can tell, if you are riding you can relaunch with ease ... and I was playing on the beach with the 21 in SFA wind (like, 2 knots) and could still reverse launch. It'd be tougher in the water but doable ... eventually!

Dimitri from Epic kites ... cross-forum bad joke, sorry. He keeps banging on about how the Speeds are so slow to turn and how the guy he borrowed one off, told him to pull the leader to get it to turn
I've yet to get a straight answer out of anyone as to what tricks you CAN'T do with a slower turning Speed versus a fast LEI ... and I doubt you're going to be doing kite-loop tricks in 10 knots and yet, turning speed always seems to be an issue with the anti-foil fan-boys :dunno: I could be wrong though ...

I always lean back to keep tension on the powerlines and sheet the bar all the way out to increase the speed. It seems like you can really milk a lot of power out of low winds that way. I practice down loops on land in really low wind (kite basicly won't fly without them) conditions to get used to it. With my Speed sometimes I can just lean back and sheet out a little and the kite will go forward, pulling me along. Good Luck.
