Plan B
It never hurts to have a backup plan.
I've been to Ivanpah three times and it was underwater two of them. At those times I wish I had thought about rain cover. I suppose I could head up
to redrocks to climb, but this trip is for kiting, dammit! So. If I'm a kiter with bad luck, then what are my options? What will the other NABX
folks be doing if the playa is wet?
I assuming Superior, Elmers ... I'll take all the help I can get.
Thanks, all.

The weather.com forecast says partly to mostly sunny thru Wed the 29th. I predict that it will be dry and windy all week for us!

I wouldn't mind climbing at red rocks. I got a rack, just bring the minimal gear and we can head up there for a day. I'll be driving out Wed night,
staying through Sunday.
I'll be parked 2 feet away from Dooley, and 1 foot away from the Lama.

La Nina weather pattern equals drought conditions in the Southwest US. I doubt we'll have a problem this year. Even last year when it was so wet
before the event it quickly dried up and the one day we had a good shower it was dry enough to drive/buggy on the next morning. I think the biggest
problem we'll have this year will be blowing dust and dust devils. But then I don't live there so what do I know?

Buggy-Brethren,
Not to worry.
Around here they call any liquid falling from clouds - Rain.
I was born and raised in Oregon.
I know rain.
Rain is a friend of mine.
This was a drizzle.
At the NABX-Great Flood a couple years ago, we had a very wet winter that year, not just that weekend.
This winter has been the opposite.
We've been out nearly every weekend.
I buggied Ivanpah (both sides) last Sunday - the 19th.
Right now the landsailers have the lake bed.
Last night's slight precip at Primm (.05") should be dried off before noon today.
I love bad weather before an event - Bad weather never lasts.
I hate great weather before an event - Great weather never lasts.
But it should this year.
Forecast calls for temps near 80 degrees by Friday.
Tsune makes regular offerings at the temple to Kaze - God of the Wind - in Tokyo. Miki makes sure he does.
I am on speaking terms with Earl, our local wind gawd, and between us... We've taken care of everything!

Now, I'm not saying you said anything in particular, don't get me wrong, honest, really, no offense intended (or not intended?), I won't blame you...
hmm, can't think of anything else to say...
But. Everyone should be prepared for anything in the desert. I'll be bringing rain gear, sun gear, and cold weather gear.

Buggy-Brethren & Sistren,
See what I mean?
They get so excited.
Some precip overnite and a few showers today.
That's all.
Localized.
I know what winter rain is.
I've lived it.
Rains for days, or months.
Steady pitter-patter on the roof, gurgling drainspouts, grey skies.
Life is damp, moldy and mildewy.
The High Desert of the Southwest is completely different.
Mostly dry year-round.
But, things can change in a flash.
Rains tend to be short and intense.
Like 2" in 20 minutes.
But thankfully, usually very localized.
Still, be watchful if you're downstream from one of those.
These short showers we've had this week are nothing to get excited about.
The landsailers are out there now and will have their own "flood" stories to tell.
(Hyphen - It's only verga)
This year, looks like it's our turn to be graced with the best weather.
Forecast highs near 80 degrees by Friday.
Live the dream.

No, no, no, just let's call the whole thing off. Dang it, we never seem to get it right and it's almost never ANY fun, it might rain, 'Run Forest,
Run!'
Tell you what, a couple of us will go out there anyway. We'll check it out and let you know if it's wet, or windy, or well, most anything.
We'll post here, and on the main site each day.
Stay tuned!
