List all the hobbies you were once into and now aren't
Ever since I got into this kite thing; it's all I do anymore.
Things I used to do:
BMX
Fixed gear single speed
Paintball
Online FPS shooters(Doom, Quake, Unreal)
Collecting knifes
Collecting guns
5.0 Mustangs(drag racing(turbo/nitrous/blower/stroker))
Electric cars(full size EV's back when fuel was mega $$$ in ~08)
I still observe and keep kinda up to date on all those things on a periphery(if that makes sense). They just don't hold my interests any longer nor
do I deem them worthy of my energy and time.
There are all sorts of things I'd do if only I were interested in them. Skateboarding and RC cars come to mind. I've always had a fleeting, casual,
from the sidelines type interest in those two things. There are many more, but they fail to come to mind right now. This is the only thing I find
fun anymore and that I really get any enjoyment out of.
I find it(buggy) to be very mentally engaging(amount of concentration and attention). Also the intensity, shear thrill, and excitement. Also the
constant search for the perfect ride. We've all had brief moments of it. It's an ongoing challenge to get the right conditions and equipment to
attempt to make it happen all the time. Ride after ride; trying to get the best ride. I might get one or two really good ones(above all the others)
most sessions. I think that is part of the challenge; trying to get it to the point where every run is a great, good, or best run. Depending on your
local wind conditions, it might not be nearly that challenging.
That's part of the draw kite boarding has for me. It's something I can't do and I would like to get good at it. Another thing for another day.
What are your previous hobbies that you used to be
really into?
Sting 1.7, 2.4 - Flow 2, 3, 4, 5 - Reactor 2.2, 2.8, 3.5, 4.4, 5.5 - Yakuza 2.2, 2.7 - JOJO 9

Mongoose with chromoly kashamax aero lay-back seat. Shopper tyres, mushroom grips (originals), bear Traps, straight handle bars, two finger grip

I even combined BMX with my kiting earlier this year at Wallop Reloaded. :D

That's the odd thing about my mind. Likely bipolar and its very manic right now. Extremely so. It's great when it is; I feel very creative. I feel
like every possibility is on offer and availiable to me(regarding anything; the future looks bright(when I'm like this)).
But trust me; it sucks most of the time because it's not and it's at the other extreme.
My favorite quotes about it from this:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001924/
"Reckless behavior and lack of self control, Poor judgment, Spending sprees."
Been there, done that! Not all at once; but have indulged in it.
Also:
Very elevated mood
Excess activity (hyperactivity)
Increased energy
Racing thoughts
Talking a lot
Very high self-esteem (false beliefs about self or abilities)
Very involved in activities
All true and have experienced(now for example).
The depressed phase; all points listed true and experienced. That's the phase I'm most familier with. Pretty much my daily existence.
An eccentric gem of info I found about it regarding Lincoln:
"Depression, which he was afflicted with, came with the human body he assumed. Manic depression is a disease that brings with it great blessings in
the form of creativity and an ability to communicate with others, and also brings with it hells in the form of exhaustion, delusion and a desire to
end it all in suicide. One takes the bad with the good."
It's a ride(up and down roller coaster; that's for sure).

I haven't really dropped any hobbies, but they have more or less taken a back seat to kiting. However, I picked up some new hobbies that I do on no
wind days, my favorite of them being knife throwing. I've been doing that for a while now.
I also skateboard, mountain bike (not as good as Feyd though ), listen to and
write music (I don't listen to music the rest of my crowd does), tinker with cars… I've learned to make something out of nothing growing up in this
town. You'd be surprised.

A little reversed for me...
Got into kiting in 1989, took over my life.
Since then, kinda focused my kiting aspects to traction (buggy, board, landboard), fighters, and some single line (including KAP).
Added to the mix since the beginning has been mountain biking, backpacking, rock climbing, and SUP.

axe while im watchin tv and jam away for hrs on end--and the better you get the more u want to play--its a good thing......

- I still have my 1980 redline with Tuff Wheels. My son rides it. Also have an 84 Quadangle frame I need to build up. I ride a beach cruiser daily
to work.
- Used to play a lot of Quake and RTCW online. Done with video games.
- I had a 67 Chevelle with a 350. Gave up on cars as a hobby. Too much of a money dump. My mazda 6 station wagon is the best for haulin' kite gear.
- Used to Ski but my wife did not like it even when I took her to Vail! :puzzled: So done with that and it is expensive for lift tickets. I have gone
a couple times a season to Tahoe. Would like to try kite skiing but the wind is no good in the Sierras.
- All kiting now. When there is no wind I ride a longboard with a kahuna big stick.

RTZ I ride single speed on the road. I've ridden her fixed and damn near killed myself going hi/lo in a turn and she hi sided when I stopped
pedalling. Too many years on no fixed to want to stick with it. You fixie riders are soemthin' else.
I have 8 centuries in on the SS this season. My other road ride is a Trek Speed concept carbon rocket ship. But I prefer the old steel single.
Lift access skiing is for suckers.
I've worked in the ski biz most of my life, have access to free tickets whenever and I haven't been on a chair in almost 10yrs. Why wait in lift
line, get straffed by park beaters and shavers when I can get 80 miles in all day? I don't even know if I know how to ski down a hill anymore.
I'm jealous of your Mazda 6 AD. We almost bought one but ended up with the Honda Oddity. If the 6 had a little more giddty up I'd give up th WRX for
it. LOVE THE SLIDING DOORS!
Those Quadangles were great bikes.

Heh I am actually strongly thinking about selling my Masi Team 3V roady to pay for more kite gear :-p
The rig is just a bit old and valuable to consider modding it for current components. I just can't see tweaking that old school steel frame out for
larger rear hub, plus road riding up here is terrible, 70% of drivers hate cyclists and make it dangerous..

I would leave her stock. I built my steel rig up with a bunch of old Suntour 3000 series from back in '87. (all except the gears and shifters)
Lightweight, classic styling and with 2k on the bike I've never had the headset loosen or a crank.
I like my steel frame more than my Trek. It even rides better than my Time VXR did. Rode yesterday when the roads cleared and it was bliss.
Drivers hate cyclists here too. Of course if you see how our local roadies ride you'd understand why.

Chess is just boring unless I'm SMASHED. it feels like checkers now.
I moved over to go this winter.. Me and my roommate would smoke ganga/ drink matte/ listen to girls wailing the blues. We would play for hours after
skiing; it totally spoiled me.
I played almost every day, and I'm still just a novice. It's such a beautiful game.

Yeah we have allot of cyclists here and they unfortunately many of them think they own the road. Law is a bit on thier side often and they take full
advantage.. 2ft shoulder between white line and curb, they ride 3 ft into traffic lane type attitude. All while riding 15mph in the 35mph zone,
least make an effort and push the pace up slackers!
Yeah the bike does ride like an absolute dream, have loved it since I bought it. It is the Purple edition with all the sponsorship decals clearcoated
in. It has Dura-ace running gear with Ultegra 600 brakes. Downtube shifters are the thing I really want to replace, but being old 7spd, means also
upgrading rear hub, rear DR, plus levers.. Even the old STI parts, people think is gold, plus the aforementioned bad roads.. I also have my Giant
VT3, be easier and cheaper to buy a set of wheels for that and put skinnies/road tires on it. Plus least then if I end up off the road I have 5"
travel to ride it out :-p (Ask em how I know..)
That is why I am thinking shine her up and sell her.. Put the $$ into kites/buggy/atb.. Mine is not spotless, but I saw a Frame&fork only sell
last week. Never built up, it went for over a grand!? :o

We have a wagon. Plenty fast for my tastes and decent gas mileage hauls everything and the dog. ROcket box up top for skis and stuff that gets wet.
Drove an STI for a while and the suspension felt stiffer than my Jeep's. Our roads suck and man you felt every little crack.
No mods or suspension upgrades on ours. She handles well, a little flex in the back, but a good set of tires makes a huge difference.
Studs on in the winter and she hauls the mail in bad weather. Makes driving in snow and ice a hell of a lot of fun. Pretty much addicted to all
wheel drive. Scooby are probably 35% of the cars you see around here.
