solid low wind buggy kite

just wanted to throw my two pesos in about the 8.5m Blade III as a low wind buggy kite. I was out on the sandbar yesterday with winds in the 4-7mph range.........put the kite up and as she rose is was getting pulled/scudding in the pz.....took a seat, swept her down from 12/1ish oclock and off we went running the length of the sandbar. After a couple dips and apparent wind kicked in she was a park and ride sweetie............had a huge grin although maybe running near or in the low 20s I was able to buggy in such light wind...................great low wind buugy motor!

8.5 BIII is a great low end engine. I sometimes regret selling mine

And then I pull out my Bego 600 and all is well  :smug:

The Flexifoil hype says their Blurr is faster in a buggy than all their other non-race kites, including a Blade(!)

I am all for the reduced lift (Blades still SCARE me :( ),
but I wonder how the Blurr 7m compares to comparable size Blades in a buggy.
My guess it probably doesn't get you started up as quickly as a Blade.

And I am almost to the point where passing up the purple & fluorescent green Bego 600 that secondwind was selling has faded from memory and the bruises from kicking myself have all healed.

Then someone  posts something that reminds me about it and I feel like kicking myself all over again

And then.... and then, it dawns like the sun on a crisp winter morning.... while B-Roc may have gotten over his regret... he is still a "carrier'!!!

I sold my 6.5m Blade IV for a 7m Blurr. I still regret selling that Blade more than any other kite ever. But the Blade was just not comfortable to buggy with if you want to stay in your seat with all 3 wheels on the ground. It's crisp turning and brilliance in flight made it a joy to fly till the wind got above the range you can hold it down in and then the kite was in control. I'd like to have a go with one again now that I have an Apexx and the skills I've learned in the last 3 years since selling the Blade. The Blurr was much more comfortable to fly in the buggy and I felt in control in almost any situation. Both kites were my low wind go to kites at the time.

Funny, I have flown my 9m Blade 2 in a wide variety of winds . Been overpowered plenty but never lofted. It has served up amazingly well but is getting old. I bought a 10.8 Reactor II to replace it and was lofted twice last year ! One time almost 20ft up !! So much for reputations?

I can't speak for the 8.5 but my 9m Blade is NOT that lifty. I think it is more the small Blades you want to worry about the lift on ?

Am I wrong and the 8.5 IS lifty ?

I think they ARE lifty. I also think you need to shorten the A bridles on your 10.8 as well like Michel did to my 5.5 2 years ago.

Interesting ?
I am curious if others have found the 9m Blade lifty ? I am actually the only one I know I know who has owned one ?

Rip has offered to re-tune my RII but haven't done it yet. I actually like how it performs in clean wind. Held it in nearly the same range as Mac's 13m Psycho III at SOBB ! It's the gusts that have gotten me.

I have both the Blade IV 6.5 and Blurr 7m. Love them both. Have ridden the Blade a few times in the buggy but much prefer the Blurr. With the Blade I might get going a little earlier but it can't be much more than a 1 or 2mph if that. I think the Blurr is quicker and will drive a little further into the window. With the Blade you'll get a little more sideways pull, at least on the normal and lifty settings. Both are rock solid in terms of stability...the edge probably going to the blurr.

Holy #@%$#!...that is scary...I have the 10.8 as well and it's definitely got lift. I usually put it down when it gets over 10 or 11mph.

Not many lift problems with the Blurrs?
The Blade I can obviously understand...

But 20ft on a Reactor?(!):ticking:

That comes as a shock!
(I was looking into one of those as well)

Please note that any kite can lift in the 'right' winds, but I have not had any lifting problems with my 7m Blurr.

I also have not had any lift problems with my 10.8 Reactor II. It definitely does have the potential but I also don't take it out in gusty winds or winds over 11 or 12mph. I'm a really big fan of both those kites.

This is my opinion and experience as well. I've felt light in the seat with the big RII but never been lifted more than a foot or so and that was when it reached zenith at launch. Very unusual compared to my experience to get a "Blade like" lofting from one.

again winds were 5 to 7 so no chance of lifting in those conditions.............I have had her in the buggy between 9 and 11 mph and the lift is there but controlable.............good to about 12mph then Im on the 12m Pulse 2, the 6.6B3, or the 12m Pulse 2....................

+1 on ALL kites can spank you.

I for one DID get picked up and spanked by my 7m Blurr when a rogue gust spanked several of us in OOBE Field a few years ago. Tridude was there to rescue me from a bad drag after the crash. (Thanks again Tri...) My knee still isn't right. I LOVE the Blurr though, its my low wind FB but if I have the time for set up, my 15m Phantom is usually pulled out if the winds gets near 10. I love the Blurrs, have all but the 2.5.
