PKF speed rankings
Since the Stormboarding Speed Rankings will be no longer
perhaps we'll have to try our own speed rankings thread.
http://www.stormboarding.com/ for info on the why (if you didn't read about that on the kitestorm thread on the events thread)
Looks like Rachael is giving it up for a good cause...

Well, as Rosanne Rosannadanna used to say so well, "Nevermind". I think a thread here would be great. The speeds hit on the ice and snow are pretty
amazing.
You are in the snowkiting section so I should've noticed.

Bob's reply drives home what I was thinking.
While this is an international forum and is about all things power kite it is most populated by buggy minded people.
I have a feeling that 75% or more of the snowkiters out there don't have anything to do with this site ?
Kiteforum would be a more logical site for this IMHO ?
We can figure out what PKF member was fastest by simply watching Hardwaterkiter's blog ! ;-)

Maybe a thread here would spread the word and draw in the hoards of snow kiters that don't go to any forum or at least not this one. They fly kites
too, many the same that we do, and we all benefit by skills learned in all disciplines.

i think PKF is pretty awesome as it is. Snow specific sections like on kiteforum and snowkite.com never really get THAT much activity; especially
considering that its so season driven.
I just honestly think the sport is so young in the minds of americans that the demand is really that low.

I think that many look at speed kiting as a buggy thing for sure. I've often wondered how fast I was going when my legs started to shake from trying
to hold my edge on hard packed snow. If a few people start posting some GPS shots in a thread, then maybe it might spark more interest to keep it
going for at least the season. I'm sure that a whole section in the forum would be too much though, but one continuous thread kept alive by people
adding their shots should work nicely.
what I fly/ride:

I wasn't thinking of a whole section dedicated to snow speed stuff.
Just maybe a sticky, or whatever you'd call it - maybe like the "kite terms" or "Scoops tips for newbies". Just a thread in a section, certainly not
a section in itself. Just a thought since stormboarding is history... not suggesting that it would replace stormboarding in anyway - just thought it
would be an interesting idea for the PKF snowkite crowd.

Even though there are a lot of kite buggiers on here you also have to remember that kite buggying is only one part of many of our interests. For
example here in Ontario we are winter kiting (that means on skis or snowboards) anywhere from early December to early April. Then when the ice breaks
up we are hitting the water. Sprinkle in the months early spring and late fall that we can get on the good beaches to buggy and that means buggying is
really 3rd in the ranking as far as amount of time per year spent doing that. As we represent a full community anything we can do to contribute to OUR
forum and the place we like to hang out - all the better. We are a great family, supportive and well rounded - why not explore other options rather
than steering to forums that I know a quite a few people skim but do not enjoy getting dragged into some of the stupid discussions that crop up on
other forums (okay, once in a while we try to keep up on that front).
Some of the other things I like on other forums is they present a some other interests - photo of month fun competitions, joke of the day, etc
We could have thread on speeds posted throughout the winter - whether there is enough interest top sustain it, we'll have to see who contributes. Even
if you don't kite ski or race it might be of interest just to get info on how any kite or gear performs under certain conditions.
Good idea Patrick - there is more snow action happening out your way then we have here.

the annual Erie PA Ice Fly, held around Valentines weekend hosted by Lee Sedgewick and Sue (Taft), got many US snow kiters started and was one of the
premier winter kite events for years. Now many years down the road I remember Lee hosted the 20th edition a number of years ago and I believe it is
still held every February.
Maybe it's more a matter of where you live. For example here in Ontario Canada the main local forum is all about kiteboarding from the moment ice melt
until it freezes again and then it's all about snow kiting other than people discussing where to go on a holiday to someplace warm. Buggying doesn't
get more than 1-2 mentions per year.

I liked the weekly chart and the seasonal chart format. Any particular week anyone could be feel the thrill of being "the fastest" and the seasonal
chart would of course be Krug's on top, Krug's on top , wheres Krug , Krug's on top.
We could try a thread for "your top speed this week" in a section(buggy, snowkite, atb) along with a full section "sticky" devoted to personal best
speeds. In PKF this would be one way to keep up with both currant and historic speeds.
The "weekly top speed" threads would rise to the top seasonally for for each variety of kiting. A personal best "sticky"could be a listing of just
that or if possible arranged in order from fastest to not as fast as fastest.

I have no problem with the idea of us having a speed page. I will even try to contribute.
I was just suggesting that this isn't exactly the #1 site for snowkiters.
Having a speed page can only help us to attract more members.
It would be nice if some prizes were offered up ?
