Less fun when there's less snow. (why we don't jump much in these parts)

Why would anyone ride leashless (in the snow kite video)? I think I counted 5 runaway kites. Not the smartest thing to do trying those tricks.

I swear some of those looked like premature or unintentional CL releases.

1:07, 1:23, and 1:28 look like pretty cold miserable walks back home.

Not sure if it was just the perspective, but d@amn if 1:20 didn't look like a trainer LEI.

I remember seeing this a year or two ago, but don't remember it being this long (nothing wrong with that), unless this was an extended mix.

Sam

Apparently you should only work on handlepasses on the water. ow ow and OW.

Do you think there's something about flying the LEIs on snow that makes it easier to push limits and send it despite the risk of a crash because of the total depower when the bar is dropped unlike a foil that will take you for a powered ride when you biff your landing?

When watching all those snow kite videos in last month I notice same thing ..... almost everyone fly inflatable kites ...... When in Kitestorm last year ratio was 50/50 ........ I know we are more buggy oriented on this forum and many of us use foils as first kites ...... Most of kiters try snowkiting after kiteboarding ..... and I think that could be a reason to see so many LIE kites on snow ...... Someone mention this before ..... that is harder to re launch pomp up on snow and hold to it after crashing because is sliding to power zone all the time in full shape .....

Fun vid, thanks for finding and posting that Kober.

Runaway kites. Bad... And those did look like CL releases gone wrong. Some of those impacts were at odd angles, and it could have been that the safety on the leash released due to odd impact angles. Still... not a good thing.

As for wiping out in the snow... if it is deep enough, the impact will actually be softer than on water. Water at speed is going to be a lot harder than snow is. Granted, some of those impacts still looked pretty gnarly...

As for the number of LEIs... I think thats already been explained... Folks coming from water using the same kite for snow... It works just fine. Not always the easiest solution though (I prefer my foils)

Talking to the Idaho snowkiters. The reason why they use LEIs is for money purposes. During the summer they can fly on water and during the winter just turn around and use the same kite on snow. Instead of buying a completely different 1000$ kite.

thunderfoil 9 ft.

Still watch those guys playing around the water and thinking to myself that they are just playing with fire. Can't imagine it would be very easy to get a snowboard off in the water. This has me really itching to try out my 12m Airush Flow in the snow. My only fear is that it will give my good buddy more leverage in his argument that foils should be obsolete. :embarrased:

Different rides for different moods. If it puts a smile on your face it's good.

Most powerkite related debates are just a waste of pixels. People spend too much time watching the other lane rather than the one they are driving in.

That reminds me of the Fenslerfilm GI Joe PSA. "I'm totally going so fast...ah f***!"

Sorry - that had to hurt.

Watching those crashes just make my shoulders ache. The natural reaction is to stick your arm out when falling but that would mean a popped out shoulder for me. That part is no fun and why I have been sticking to the water.
