Recommend a Trainer Kite?
Been surfing for about 15yrs and just moved to Norcal where the surf is frequently blown out or less than ideal conditions. Looking to get into
kiting with the eventual goal of being able to kite in the surf zone... So, my question is what trainer kite would you recommend?
I'm looking for a trainer with a moderately steep learning curve and with some power. I'm about 200lbs and will most likely be flying the kite in a
wide range of wind speeds.
I've been considering the HQ Rush 4 PRO 3.0 and also the Ozone Imp 2.5. Thoughts on these??
Thanks

I've flown both the Imp 3.5M and the Rush Pro IV 300, and both have good power in moderate wind, and I'm 200# also. Have you considered the
Hydra?(HQ) A water relaunchable closed cell ram air foil? In the larger size it would probably give you body drag training in mod. wind. All would
be good choices for first trainer, with the water option for the Hydra. Welcome to the fun!

I'd recommend the HQ Hydra 300 or 350. It'll launch/relaunch/land and handle the same as a Rush Pro series and if you decide to hop in the water and
body drag with it, you won't have to worry about it sinking.
Kites:

Yup, we have Hydra's in stock and they are a great trainer. Super easy to set up, fun to fly and they come with a great safety system. Best part is
that you can work on your water skills with the Hydra as well. Totally water relaunchable and they are very affordable compared to other water
relaunchable trainer kites.

I want to recommend a used 5 meter LEI. Very affordable on ebay, and once you become experienced, it will become your go-to high wind kite.
***going with a small LEI will let you become familiar with the components of the LEI kite. With your goal of being able to kite in the surf zone, i
think that this would be your best option.
Most trainer kites are 3 meter foil kites, there wont be too much a difference in power comparison.
my 2 cents:eureka:
