If there are enough pkf users, it would be cool to start a subreddit community for power kite users videos, news, links etc... Any opinions?

I'm gettin freakin old. I have no idea what any of that means and I'm too tired and lazy to Google it.

www.reddit.com - User-generated news links. Votes promote stories to the front page.

It's super addictive because there's always fresh stuff on the front page. The most voted/usually best stuff makes it to the front page (even though there are many pages). You don't have to register an account to view, but you do have to register to upvote/downvote/post comments.

There's also the comments, which provide insight into whatever is being linked, or more content, or devolve into pun-offs or other sorts of craziness. Comments can be upvoted/downvoted as well, so you'll usually see the most-upvoted comments at the top or prominently displayed.

Then there are the subreddits which are pretty much akin to our subforums where people talk about specific subjects. If you're into video games, you can check out www.reddit.com/r/gaming If you just want to see some funny/interesting pictures, hit www.reddit.com/pics or sometimes www.reddit.com/r/funny

There is already a kiteboarding subreddit here

but it doesn't really have very much traffic (not sure why). Sticking to these forums or other kiteforums is probably your best bet for more info, conversation, and classifieds.

My favorite part of reddit is when they have celebrities/famous people do an "IAMA" = I am, Ask me anything, like Neil Degrasse Tyson (Astronomer & host of the new COSMOS series) http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/mateq/i_am_neil_degras...

The 'shreddits' are nice too (Snowboarding/Longboarding/Kiteboarding/Skateboarding). I did post about losing AJ in kiteboarding.

There is a 'local' reddit for just about every major city, where they organize meetups (my local one does a weekly meetup for drinks, another weekly meetup for hot-wings, and we're doing an upcoming burger meetup where we will go to different burger places. Heck, we've even got a local 'go to the firing range' meetup!) I even got my current job from our local reddit. I get a lot of new recipe ideas from there, most of my news(before it hits the papers!) from there, many ideas on how to stretch a dollar from /frugal, tips on dressing better from /malefashionadvice, etc etc etc! Anything you can think of, there is a reddit for.(Which is positive and negative.)

The place can be overwhelming, but once you have an account you can hide the 'reddits' (groups/categories) you don't want to see, and find new ones you do.

Well if there's food involved, especially the wing variety I'm a bit more intrigued.

That said, I have to admit that for myself I find that in responsible hands this sort of thing can be very cool. However if it becomes as obnoxious as twitter, then I just block it out and tend at best to ignore it and at worst get annoyed by it.

I've blocked a lot of FB contacts because of "overuse" on thier part. People seem to have no abilty to filter what is really interesting from what is not. Seriously, I'm only interested in the fact that you're at the store, buying cat food, if I'm trying to break into your house. Otherwise stop sharing that stuff. I'm especially annoyed by posts and submissions done in the form of texts.

I'm not saying I'm for or against this sort of thing.

Just for the record, I had to go to the store just before closing last night to get food for the cats.... I meant to post it to Facebook, but it slipped my mind. Oh yeah.... just made a fresh pot of coffee. Thought you should know.

Seriously, I tend to agree with you about FB. Generally all apps are block.... and a majority of stuff I (along with the rest of the world), don't need to know. However, it is good for keeping up with birthdays, when people have had family emergencies, etc. Like anything else utility and abuse tread a razor path.

This all seems interesting but I think I will be one passing on it. As said already FB is annoying enouph and I don't need another. Sam I'm glad you got cat food and are drinking enouph coffee as am I. But I also block folks that need to tell others every time they spend a dime on penny candy. Just to be clear I don't text, twitter, or any other type of things. To much effort to keep up with it all. I have no mobile internet abbility just the old desk top...
