Min. wind higher for 5M than 7.5M or 10M?

HQ uses a higher min. wind for the 5M Apex III than the Apex III 7.5M or 10M. HQ does the same for the Montana. Ozone uses the same low min. wind for all kite sizes of the Access and Frenzy. Is there a benefit for having a higher min. wind (9 vs 4) for the 5M Apex III? Does this make it have a higher top end or fly better in higher winds? Is it the design of the foil or rigging of the center lines?

I just think the HQ listing is more realistic. Think about it... A smaller wing will definitely require more wind than a larger one to get moving....

I'm not a depower foil flier but having a higher minimum low end on a 5m Apex vs 7m Apex makes perfect sense to me as there's less canopy on the 5m to stay afloat in lighter winds.

On the other hand the smaller the kite the larger the wind range but this usually extends towards the higher end of wind speed.

If Ozone uses the same min for all their kites then that would be unusual. I've not seen that before.

Ozone and HQ may have different design setup's and this should be taken into account too I guess.

There is a big difference between a kite flying and generating power.
Often I am struggling to get the 10.8 Reactor ( or similar ) flying while others are playing with 3m foils. Once the 10.8 is up and moving it is supplying power and I ride away while the others are stuck just flying .

Arcs are a great example of this. Small arcs will fly in very little wind but they won't get you anyplace.

I think it is a bit misleading having all sizes start at the same bottom end. Far better to show it's " usable range " ! They are power kites after all.

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
