Thoughts on Tybee Island, GA????
Does anyone have opinions on Tybee Island, GA?
I was thinking of taking My wife and kids on a camping/ Kiting trip, and Tybee is a little closer than Jekyll. I know Jekyll is great, but I have
little kids, and would like to minimize the drive time. I know Jekyll is only a couple of hours south, but little kids in the car make those
couple of hours worth avoiding if at all possible.
We were thinking of going late March or April to help minimize the beach crowds and still be warm enough to enjoy the beach.
Has anyone flown there that can give insight as to how the beach is for flying? Is it crowded? Are the beaches sufficiently big enough?
Thoughts???

gotta watch the tides definitely, winds would be most likely from the west to sw and tide dependent for land rides, the southend of the tybee is
the spot to check. considerable kiteboarding there and crowds on the weekend. nice river spot kinda narrow and favorable for N presentation,
checkout AOK, or KWAKE(sail loft now i think) both KS spots.
adult crowd catering there for sure. little kids probably do better at the water park on jekyll, mine do. both tide dependent spots.

Phree,
I'm still just static flying, and looking for some beach wind,... Definitely not a surfer. Are the beaches reasonable for flying?
Can you elaborate on AOK and KWAKE? are these websites, or what?
My kids aren't water babies at all, they'll be more excited about the BEACH than the water! That's not a major concern.
P.s. It was nice to meet you last Saturday.

There is a parking lot on the North end of the island at the lighthouse. There is a beach probably a mile long to the north from there with really no
other access other than to walk from that parking lot. Static would be no problem at all and when I was there, the tides didn't crowd the beach much
as it rose. At the north point, you could buggy or board with almost any wind direction if you go that route. I've been to most every beach between
St. Augustine and Wilmington so I can usually give some opinion on the beaches there. I miss the Atlantic Ocean and the ability to get in the water
without much worry of sharks and water usually warmer than 55 degrees.

Thanks guys,
Bob, north end sounds great! we're looking at tent camping the River's End RV spot which I think is walkable to the north end beach. Are you familiar
with this Campsite? Can you offer any opinions on it?
We'll definitely check out the shops when we're there, Chad.
Any thoughts on the time of year?

I never camped on Tybee and wasn't aware there was a campground there.
