Hey guys. Since last Fall I have been slowly acquiring the gear to get into kiting. I picked up a trainer kite (3m slingshot) A Mountain board I guy threw in on a deal for a truck I sold him and the wife bought me a harness for Christmas. I planned on getting on the snow this winter with my snowboard but just got out of an air cast from a dumb accident. No snow here yet anyway.. Lots of ice.. So Ive been saving my pennies for something kite related and contemplating Whether to buy a depower kite for when the day comes I feel comfortable enough to use it, or get a buggy that I can use on the ice, parking lots and soccer fields. Unfortunately I cant afford a big quiver right now (wife, kids = budget) but I will slowly accumulate things.. What would you guys recommend jumping into first? Sorry about writing a book but I know you guys have great advice!! Thanks..

Ooohhhh.... Big decision is right !!! I guess you can't go wrong with either choice. You can buggy with your trainer, but you can also ride your ATB with a new depower. Follow your gut bro... Sorry not much help. But it's a nice problem to have....:cool2:

eggy a less than expert level depower in the 7-9meter range is a good match for any thing you plan on doing and will cover a wide range of winds. Under #150 go 7m , over#150 go 9m. Any kite in that range is a big, big, jump over what you have been flying so go easy at first.

Getting experience with de-power takes time ..... so you will be busy with static flying for a while .... after that snowkiting is super easy if you have clean wind and experience with skis or snowboard ...... then when spring comes ATB goes to test ...... when you done with that you will have founds for you new buggy and probably another kite hidden from you wife ......lol

I'm thinking a buggy.. Me having a bad hoof for a couple more months and not being able to at least put hockey skates on is driving me nuts with all the ice.. Not enough snow for a board but just enough to keep a buggy on traction.. If you guys see any buggies in the 350.00 range let me know.. I'll post to the wanted section and I always keep an eye on the for sale stuff!! Thanks..

Def. buggy first! I have a very bad knee and the buggy is just what the doctor ordered! Sure a depower will be great as your skills progress, but it does take a while before you have the skill set you will want before harnessing in to a depower. Besides, depowers do not perform the way they were truly intended unless you are in motion so without the board or buggy, you will most likely not use the depower kite to its potential so flying static wont be that great. I'd say stick to the trainer for now and get in a buggy....it will give you yet another discipline you can learn and have fun with. I've learned in the time I've been involved in the sport that the more disciplines one learns lessens the chances of one getting skunked for locations to fly!

used buggy and apex... Loads of fun, easy on the wallet... My 2¢ anyway!

What is a typical wind where you are at, when you could fly? what is your main terrain? (a little kite goes a long way on smooth hard ground!) Might help narrow down a size, but the apex is a great beginner depower. I bought a small one for the crazy days, after I bought some advanced depowers... but I think the bigger ones would be fun too...
