Going Captive

A question I am often asked, what system do you use?

There are many systems to try, and each type will suit someone, it is a big jump going from kiting using just your arms to wearing a harness and being hooked in, and all of us that made that jump have no regrets I am sure. Being able to buggy for much longer periods being the obvious benifit.

Here is a link to the set up I use My Captive Set Up

What do other pilots use, and why do you prefer that system over others?

I use the Peter Lynn Divine harness as well. I was hooking a strop into a regular hook spreader, but just upgraded my spreader to the Prodigy with the fully mobile roller. I love that setup but have been wondering lately about setting up with a wichard or even going to a hotwire setup.

A downside to any further changes in my setup is that I like to be able to hook in on the fly. Most of this ability is taken away with the Prodigy wheel spreader already though. It moves around so much in all directions its difficult to get a floppy strop engaged with no hands. I've heard of some putting stranded wire inside the strop to add stiffness but haven't tried that yet. Using either a wichard or hotwire setup completely eliminates hooking in on the fly.

On my set of kites Bob I use a nylon/rubber type tube over the strop line, this stiffens the line and protects it at the same time

Pretty much the same setup as Popeye, but I use an OZONE XC w/ loop. The same 2673 wichard and a 40mm Holt Allen block, with a side plate that opens to capture the strop.

I also have been known to "hotwire" to the siderails and use my quick release on it.

I'm glad this topic came up. I recently got a divine harness and prodigy spreader. Coming from a climbing harness wichard and pulley with a quick release, my quick release has been needed and USED! I do agree getting the balls to hook in scared me also! But its best thing ever and never looked back! ok back to my questions. The prodigy spreader does not articulate like i thought it would, when under a load the pulley pivot does not spin. in other words i thought i would be able to spin the handles kind of like you would a bar on depower. i dont think lubing it up will make it spin any better? second thing is i would like to see other quick release set ups. by the way i love the divine harness very comfy! thanks thrash

it's just like wearing a harness and strop. It just cannot loft me. It has to take me AND the 130lb buggy. It helps hold down ALOT of power. NOT FOR NOOBS Very dangerous!
