I have often wondered why European kite builders give their kites the names they do.
While sitting in the waiting room at the hospital I came across this article in "Travel & Leisure" magazine.
"The Edge of Italy" about the city of Trieste,....... last paragraph.....
One of the odder sights in Trieste is the handrails, usually metal chains attached to the buildings. Almost the first thing people tell you about is
the Bora, the wind that blows in over the mountains, usually in winter.
Hold on to those hand-rails, or the Bora will knock you over.
I couldn't understand at first why everybody talks about the bora all the time, but after a while, I get it. The Bora is Trieste's force of nature,
it's mistral, the only violent thing that happens in this trim, equable city.
"I feel good in Trieste", the mayor says. "The light, the air, thanks to the sea, the surrounding plateau of the mountains, and the Bora are truly
unique.".........
Maybe we just found where one of the mysterious kite names has come from.
Anyone up for a trip to Italy to "Fly the Bora"?
