Ivanpah riding area increased

I just got off the phone with Elaine Downing with BLM and she said that the committee had decided to lift the riding restriction that has been in place on the southwest side of the lakebed. This means you can legally ride all the way around "the pond" now without restriction. The pond is still what it is and the fence will remain around it, but now the entire lakebed is fair game.

Some of us locals did a demo day last Friday for Committee members to show them what we do at Ivanpah and the day was a resounding success. They left with a good feeling that our use there is precious to us and that it indeed should be preserved for wind powered activities since it is such a perfect place for it. No wind all day until 10 minutes after they arrived. Then that afternoon wind familiar to nabx attendees kicked in and we rode right up till sunset.

Some of them took rides in landsailers but no buggy rides. Corey had a tandem setup rigged but schmoozed the whole time. I had a potential tandem rig to try but didn't set it up since we weren't sure there would be any wind and then there was so it was get the wheels rolling asap when it kicked in. We had 4 buggies running so it was a good show.

Oh man news like this reminds me, I've really got to get down there while I'm only a 10 hour drive away...I've got to get back to the east coast come April and god knows I won't make back out this way in a long time.

...that being said, how is the wind / weather this time of year? I might just do it while I can.

Oh man, I'll see if I can make it down there sometime in early March. Anyone have a landboard / buggy to lend? Moving across the country in a 2 door Honda made me leave some things at home.
