Tri,

Sounds good, assuming I'm here. I put the house on the market and am planning on moving to S. California when it sells. Could take a while considering the current housing market.

May's usually a good time of year. Just remember the SOBX is pretty much only kite-able during a SW blow. Otherwise if it's from the NW/N you can head to Cedar Island (a 1 hour drive from here) or hook up with this guy ( http://blownkiteboarding.com/ ) and go in the sound. Summer's usually pretty good for kiting here. We can average 3-6 days / week once the thermals start kicking in. When there isn't any wind, there's always surfing / SUP / kayaking too.

Probably the best places to stay (if you don't want to rent a house) is the Hampton Inn or Sheraton in Atlantic Beach. The Hampton Inn is much cheaper than the Sheraton and it's across the street from the beach rather than right on it. I was setting up a conference there and I think they quoted me $75 a night.

Hatteras is more consistant and the sound side has tons of access points. Here on the SOBX are more off the beaten trail and have much smaller crowds. I don't recall ever seeing more than 4 or 5 kites in the air at the same time here. Gonna miss that when I move to Calif.

@lunchbox - Probably Carlsbad/Oceanside since that's where we used to live and loved it. Not much wind but the waves are much better than here. Gonna miss the local gang here though, friendliest surfers I've ever met.
