Anybody sad that snowkiting season is over?

It happens every year...but I can't help but feel a little sad that snowkiting is done around here. Anybody else like the snow season like I do?

It is the extension of the new kite/no wind phenomenon: buy a Switchblade and winter is immediately cancelled.

It was just getting good here (finally got 6" to a foot of snow). Now all the good snow is gone and lots of water sitting on top of the ice. We usually get another month on the ice. But that may be cut short too since this winter is the 4th warmest ever recorded.

I put in more buggy time on smooth ice this winter than I have in 3 years of beach buggying , I would'nt have minded a little bit more.

What snowkite season?
This has been the first year since I started kiting that I COULDNT SNOWKITE even once all season. Every time I had the opportunity to go, the conditions were awful...

Kind of wish I had taken my gear to Canada with me when I was there, I saw people out on the lake there the first three days I was there. Figures...

Time to hit the water... since its already warming up...

I agree that this was one of the worst seasons on record with the weather and all....but I still was able to get 8 good sessions in this winter and it simply wasn't enough in my book.

p.s. - Glad I held off buying that snowblower this year.

Sam....
you right ....
I never install that thing ..... I got 2nd board with bindings just for that from craigslist so I can use it on ice and not worry about damage , I got Snow blades to have some fun with that, new jacket, new gloves ..... we can put Yetis to that group too since those are snow kites.......
Lets hope next one will get us some snowkite action ..... or we will have to consider that trip to Iceland ......

What snowkiting season??????

I sure was in the wrong place this year.....

Never enough ground cover to hit the big fields.......

I have no skill on black ice with the skis.......need to take Feyds advice and find some old straight skis for next year.....

Got a few days in the buggy out on Cedar Lake and those sessions were awesome......Never thought I could get the buggy to work out on the ice but it was a hoot......

Didn't even get hit with the annual high school hockey tournament snow storm this year......

As people have already said..... a bummer of a year for snow kiting around here...... looking forward to next year and will have blades made for the buggy just in case it is another ice only year.......

ya, has been a lean snow year too, basically the same everywhere I guess. Only a handful of sessions locally, a couple of those were light winds 'plodding around' sessions...and the best session of the lot was on the lake that usually gets the snow blown off the fastest, so i tend not even to kite there... Different year to say the least.

Yup, sad for sure. Got my last session in last saturday slushy snow but still cruising in just a light breeze and a 14 meter frenzy. Spring has hit with a vengence, but it was a good season. Kited 3 different lakes and the local "bog" multiple times. I need a buggy now!

Further south is pretty different Kiteboyza. Glad you got snow and ice, kite it up.

Nice!

some of the resorts here have been getting 27 inches over the last week. Pretty good stuff!

do you kite on terrain or on a lake in the mountains?
so far, I've been kiting on a lake in the mountains - amazing location, but doesn't quite keep the snow like the backcountry does. I know there is some crazy powder sessions to be had out there though.

No real flat or untree'd spots here that I have seen. I am sure they exist but the locals keep them secret.

Unfortunately, here near sea-level we have CRAP! But I have been enjoying the skiing!

its just starting!!

man you guys all need to book yourself a ticket up to the arctic!! the season is just starting. its been so cold this year that there is about 6-8 feet of sea ice, and a good amount of snow on top. we have been out a handfull of times but to be honest most sessions were an hour or less as they were in -30C or colder conditions.

Now that spring is here its light till 7 every night (6minutes more each day) and the air temps have warmed up.

Book a flight and come out for afew days. you dont even have to rush as there is at least another 3 months of snow kitting!!

Don't have to go that far north, come to Canmore Alberta. Should be hardwater/snowkiting into May after starting the season in November.

Sounds like we are really lucky. Seek and you'll find it here. Snow has been infrequent on the prairie but it is the best season in 14 years in the mountains. More snow coming Saturday night. Still well over a foot of ice on the lakes.

We should have another Alberta meetup at Sylvan Lake on the Easter weekend :bigok:

is there still gonna be snow and good ice by then you think???? Looks like some of the highs are hitting around +11 in the 14day trend. How long will sprays ice and snow last???? Might have to beg and plead with the wife for a road trip in April if it can mean another day or two of snowkiting.

Easter for sure at Sylvan but could be sloppy. Thankfull that we are still getting north winds and the cold shoulder from Edmonton. Still snowing and not much above freezing at Spray. Road was closed a few days last week due to avalanches.

The road to spray was closed for avalanche control, not due to any avalanches. It is a beautiful place to kite for sure. I'm hoping to get up there sometime before the snow and ice are gone...
