Staging Area 3

Folks, please share this with everyone, and put it on the forum's. We need your help. Could you please write Michael Ahrens mahrens@blm.gov
or call 760-326-7031 and ask that we be put at staging area 3!

Here is a sample letter you could write: Dear BLM,

please return us to staging area 3.

It's been 6 long years and I may not be able to attend another event.

The lake surface is far smoother in the lower staging area. We know you made a mistake, please expedite this and make it happen this year before our event!

It's just a command decision that needs to be made!

Sincerely,

Jeff, this is the email I sent. Maybe it will help you understand a bit more.

From email sent by BeamerBob
I am Bobby Muse of Henderson, NV and am a permit holder to use Ivanpah Dry Lake for kite buggying. I very much enjoy the easier access to all the lakebed has to offer when I park at staging area 3. The lakebed is smoother there. It is easier to get back to camp while accessing more of the lakebed in typical SW wind conditions. A benefit to having group events stage at area 3 would be to make the activity less visible from the interstate, hopefully lessening the presence of sightseers coming to find out what is going on there, possibly endangering participants and the lakebed itself. I've only been coming to Ivanpah since 2010 and don't understand why the limitations were put in place to begin with but would encourage a change be made to allow the NALSA and NABX event to gather at staging area 3.

Dean,

Does this mean you are not going to be using the tent that is there for the Land Sailors? It is a long haul from staging area 3 up to where the tent will be.

Everything we do is in conjunction with NALSA.

We are trying to get the big white tent placed at staging area three.

If i had not been at the hospital all day I would have been more proactive. The possibility of us being able to do this has just come up. I'm sorry I have not been able to tell more of the story but it has been going on for years, and is a mistake.

Anyone that wants to see the map, email me, and maybe one of you knows how to put it on here, i have never been successful with posting a picture on this forum.

Any questions, please email or call me. If i don't respond quick enough to your email, call me, i'm on the porch, with ice on my knee.

thank you.

Sadly our efforts were for naught.

We will revisit this again after the event and try our best to get this resolved for next year. 6 years of this silliness is more than enough.

Yup, we will be at staging area 2. The lake bed is reported to be pretty rough there, so it will make sense to use the lower, wider part of the lake.

Although the Federal Register has Ivanpah Dry Lake down as a haven for wind powered vehicles, the BLM has not got the memo that we should be treated like respected friends of the lake.

How, why or for what reason this ridiculous error can be continually compounded is beyond me. It seems that a simple executive decision backed by fact would resolve this issue.

We all understand that mistakes get made. Fine. But to penalize the main users of the lake bed, who travel millions of collective miles to get there, year after year, makes 0 sense to me.

I will admit that I may not be the smartest person around, but it just seems that this should not be the problem that it has turned into.

Meanwhile, as usual, we will make the best of the situation. We will run a leave no trace, leave it better than we found it, enjoy each others company, respect the BLM and their rules event.

It just would seem that making us partners would behoove everyone involved.

The folks on ATB and Blades are very effected by this.

2 years ago I came home with " black toe " from pounding into the bumps near camp all week. Last year I tried to get away to smoother ground but still messed my toe up pretty good coming and going.

The freestyle ATB folks need to stay near camp in case of injury. They to are forced to ride rough ( less safe ) terrain when it doesn't need to be that way.

Is area 3 where the land sailors set up after we arrive ? So smooth there but I try and stay out of their way.
