newb to the site and sport

Hey all just wanted to drop and line and introduce myself. I have loved kites since I was a kid and just thought yesterday about power kiting and kitesurfing and found this site. I live in Dallas but travel to visit family in Houston and Galveston very often and will try to attend this years DBBB.

Any recommendations for a kite for a beginner? I workout alot and have good upper body strength so I would like something that I can learn to fly but that also has some good power behind it...Thanks happy power kiting to all!!! :wee:

Hello there! Welcome to the wonderful world of Power Kiting! You will soon be to the point of no return!

Usually recommend a 3m kite for the beginning crowd. There are several brands to choose from, several vendors on here as well.

Do you want something to static fly with, (naturally in the beginning this would be the case) , do you plan on learning to buggy one day, ATB board, kite surf.

A medium aspect ratio 3M kite is a good place to start. Some kites in that category at:
HQ: Alpha, Beamer, Scout
Peter Lynn: Hornet, Viper S, Twister
Ozone: Quattro, Octane
PKD: Buster

You might want to give Big Mike of Big Mike's Kites a call. He is located in Celina, TX just north of the DFW area.

He might have some kites in his demo fleet for you to try out, so you can get a better idea of how different kites flying before laying down cash.

ATB,
Sam

Definitely contact Big Mike, I've gotten all my stuff from him, and he's in your area. He might even give you some demo's to try. I'm a big fan of his.

I say +1 on a 3m or 4m beamer. I have a beamer and love it! Peter Lynn Hornets are great too. I have a buddy with one.

Take it from another newb,... by all means listen to the guys on here, their advice is worth its weight in gold.

I'm going to take a nap now

Welcome ... +1 for Big Mike. You and him can carpool down here to houston. We got a few houston locals here on the forum that you can meet up with. Galveston is starting to get crowded so it's getting harder to buggy this time of year.

I would recommend a bowkite for a start, they have lots of depower, a good wind range and are easy to water relaunch. 9m is good size imo. Cabrinha Crossbow for example. But there are #@%$#!loads of other brands to choose from as well.
