" I am a Kite Buggy Pilot!"
I was just having an instant messaging war with a redneck friend of mine and he was harrassing me about my plan to go out and kite buggy today. He
said it was "Lame!" How un-enlightened.
So, I know we all "Get it", but I had to fire back---
... "your're just jealous that you dont have a cool sport--you're not an idividual--u follow other rednecks like sheep. Hunt, fish, drink beer just
because all of your friends do, ---u probably chew tobacco too. step out of the mold dude. Do something new and unique. On your death bed you can say
that you did something unique and daring with your life that few did. "I am a Kite Buggy Pilot".

You tell him!
Now, the real question is, whether this little speech actually got him interested in trying, or if he just shunned you for it...

Now, before I get hate mail--nothing wrong with the above mentioned activities if you truely love what you do. My point was simply that so many people
just do what everyone else does because ...they don't know why..

I'd prefer buggying over cars and cycles, 'cause the only grease I deal with is on the bearings! (less smoke and noise too!) :P
(Reminds me of this tough, little guy I met at a Kite Fest. He said some yee-haws were making fun of him getting thrashed around with his Blade.
So he invited one of them over to try it. "Here" he said, giving the handles to him in the screaming wind, "...just pull these back HARD...and don't
let go!!!!")

Not a hate message, but the one thought that did occur to me is that... I didnt start doing the kite thing until I saw someone else do it (on video no
less). So... I traded in doing activities with the "normal crowd" and did something totally out of the ordinary... but still followed someone else.
Learned and took on a new activity.
Chances are you didnt invent this activity either. Sure, it is in the minority, and you are not following the "masses like sheep", but you are still
following someone...
I get your point though.

Chris, most of us took to kite buggying after seeing someone else, one thing is for sure, you have your own style and definitely make any buggy ouying
one that wont be forgotten! Share our beach with you anytime fosure! I too het laughed at and rib poked when I tell someone I am about to go kite
buggying. I also try to persuade those same people to come out and they tell me Im nuts. Thats cool, I have always lived outside the norm!
Kudos for taking up for all of us like minded cool a%# folk.

They laugh and mock, but how many would be willing to give it a go?? Possibly afraid of failure?? Other hand they might be afraid of getting hooked,
and then leaving the masses behind like you. Get it a lot from bikers, quad junkies, and sledders. Some guys are just scared to step out of their
shell. The others can't see past their own front porch. Best you can do is invite them out, and give them a taste of what they are missing.

Sometimes when I mention to someone I'm going to fly my kites you can see in there eyes they have a mental picture of a triangle ,string and tail and
then the words follow from that mental picture. If a guy has'nt seen it, let alone try it , they just can't grasp what its all about. One of the local
kids before he knew me ,said when he first saw me fly "it (you) looked gay". Maybe I had short shorts on that day , a couple of days ago him and two
others borrowed the vipers and went flying in some banging winds with a harem of girls watching over them.
Keep flying pokite , Jessica could be watching.

I felt that I would respond to the PoKiteTrash' rant.
Being from the same area, Aiken, SC., I can support his lack of expectations
from the local Red Neck population here where we live.
It's a disease that's more like a virus that runs through the throngs of in-breads that over populate the mobile home parks here in Aiken County.
Because we, me and Po.. don't have a jacked up F-250 with monster mudder tires, a herd of blue nose Pit Bulls, a Bass-tracker boat, a doublewide
trailer, don't hunt deer, have a dip of "toebackey" in our lip, or have ugly wives that are our first cousins that we beat up and we don't wear "wife
beaters". We are different from the locals. We don't have a Rebel Flag on or around us either.
The first thing they say after meeting you is "You're not from around here are you?"
Jeff Foxworthy once described a Redneck as a person that lacks sophistication.
Our local Rednecks also lack an education, can't see any further than his nose and has the awareness level of a slug. This and a bag of chips too!
I have a different approach to this problem and it's with EDUCATION !!! I've had a T-Shirt Shoppe, Sign Shop, and Screen Printing business here for
22 years.
I always have my buggy for viewing under the shop awing and when they ask I do my best to enlighten them about the sport .
I then let them see a "you tube" of "X-Team" Buggy Blast 04 or 07 and kite buggy racing Ireland. This usually blows their minds and I ask them to
come out to OOBE Field and give it a try. Then they see a buggy pilot have a OBE and you always hear "OH #@%$#!!"
This Saturday is our local kite festival produced by Parks & Rec... It's a bureaucratic
bust out in a soccer field surrounded on 4 sides with tall pines. It's a real P.O.S !!!!!
but... I shall go there and do a show and tell about power kiting and do my best
to enlighten the sheeples. Pray for me. I hope I don't land a wing in some dog crap!
We've seen our share of jacked up F-250's with monster mudder tires, blue nose Pit Bulls, Bass-tracker boats, deer hunters in huntin clubs, ugly
first cousin wives that wear "wife beaters" that ALL have bad tattoos on their ankles come into our shop over the years. Our air brush t-shirts are
real popular with this bunch.
Some days it's a regular zoo of some of the most unusual people we've ever seen. Thanks for the business.....a service that they want and need... and
we will gladly accept their money... always a challenge to make them happy.
I see our country going to hell in a hand basket every day. I don't cry about it any more, I'll be dead in 10 years and won't have to deal with it
ever again!
"Way down South in the land of Dixie..........." Where's my Mint Julep Rochester?'
The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
