Helmets for kitesurfing?
I've always thought it was a good idea to protect my head in case of falls in shallow water or any other unforeseen problems. I also recently
suffered a concussion snowboarding (even with a helmet on) and confirmed how important head protection is in extreme sports. How many of you guys
wear helmets, and what type would be ideal for kitesurfing?
My skill on water is nowhere near what it is on snow, but I'm looking to get a board and get into water kiting this summer. Are there any downsides
of wearing a helmet? I'm not worried about how I look with a helmet on, so that is no concern. I'm speaking more about the helmet getting in the way
or hindering a self rescue effort.

oh yes. esp if there are waves. I've biffed it and lost my board only to have to travel via wave into my head. I like the ace water sports helmet.

Helmet on the water is a good idea. You never know what can go wrong, and it is better to be safe, than sorry. I've heard some arguments against
helmets (believe it or not), but most of those arguments really do not hold much water (imo).
Having said that, I am sometimes guilty of not wearing a helmet on the water. Most of the time I do wear it though...

ill put on the helmet most of the time when the conditions are questionable or if i'm riding back and forth down the coast line. i love riding fast
staying in really shallow allot of the time so if i do loose it my noodle will be protected from any hard impacts.

I use a helmet as well...everytime...water, land, don't matter. I've also had a few times when my board and bar have hit me in the head.
I use the Protec Ace for the water.

Me too!!! I wanted it to match my wetsuit  but sometimes I think...man, if I'm
out in the ocean needing to be found and my kite isn't close by, there never going to find me...gulp!
