So my wife and kids and I all took a camping and kiting trip last week to Tybee Island, Ga. If you want to know about the camp sight, check the "meet
up" forum. It was pretty awesome and we're planning on making it a regular gig. But,... to the kiting.
It was the first time I have experienced beach wind with a power kite, and I must say it was indeed awesome. I took my bug to work on the skills, and
had a super fun time. The wind was fluctuating between 8 & 9 knots. I started out with the 5m core, but for my skill on the bug, I just felt it
was too quick, and I needed to move a little slower to practice my reaction time. So I pulled out the 3m beamer and worked on all the stuff I knew and
learned some new stuff just from jumping in.
The 3m Beamer is the kite I learned with and dialed in technique and started linking turns with. That kite and the comfortable speeds are great for
building skills and confidence. Every time you go to the beach you will be better than the last time. Those smooth winds really let you fly the kite
instead of trying to survive the gust that just went by your head.

Thanks mougl, its my understanding that beamers are super easy to control. I know they're not supposed to be great on the bug, but it's what I have
for right now. And The 5m core felt too fast for me to be able to react in that wind.
Looking at the vid, I thought it looked like I had the kite higher up than I needed and I've been trying to work on getting it lower down. And it sure
feels a lot faster in person than it looks on the vid.
It always does feel faster in the buggy than it looks
In those smooth winds, just about any kite is a decent buggy engine when you are learning but that's just my opinion. Kudos for putting the core away
when it felt too fast! Some would just push it but it's all about comfort and confidence level. Confidence will come in time so better not to push too
hard too soon IMHO.
When the time comes for more kites, do yourself a favor and check out the Viper S by PL. great stability, solid speed, forgiving, and you will not
outgrow it soon. You're doing great for such little time in the seat!
mougl, Thanks for the kind words. I'm always thinking about what to get next, and I really like the core, I've been scheming ways to get a 3m and a 4m
when I have the money. I would love to try a viper s but there are no dealers close by, and I know they will be going off the market soon (core too).
I ALWAYS hear great stuff about the viper s.
I'll figure out the quiver when I've got the bucks for it. But I have no room in the budget and won't probably until the fall. Thanks for the advice
though.
