I got a Mac
Y'all might remember that I'm not such a huge fan of Macs ... but this is amusing me!
It's an older PowerBook but it seems to tick along just fine. I only really want it for a bit of word processing etc and getting any PC here with an
English OS is next to impossible ... and this was the only laptop I've seen for a while from the local guys ...
So that's pretty funny. But the best thing is ... there's an open WiFi network in the area that I'm using :D swee-eeeeet!
That's all, carry on ... :tumble:
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

If you are looking for an Engllish OS available in japan, might I suggest the Ubuntu flavour of Linux. Available over the web for free. Easy to
install as windows dual boot using WUBI. I started playing with Linux a few years ago to deal with highly infected PCs. Since then I have pretty
much switched over from windows. No viruses, no spyware, free office package that will open the latest MS Orafice files, unlike my windows machine
with orafice 2007. Linux is great: allows you to put the blocks to Gates and Jobs at the same time.

I've run dual boot Ubuntu/XP on my laptop. The Ubuntu worked well and was pretty damn zippy compared to XP. But as a dual boot it was sometimes
problematic and I eventually yanked it.
I'm cleaning out the basement as we speak. I found a pile of PC parts down there and I think I have enough to build up a mid tower. I'm going to run
Ubuntu as the OS and see how she goes as the sole system on it. I think it will be good.

Discussions of that nature always have me looking for the "thread eject" button.
I have never ever understood the impulse of some people to try to convert another person's opinion on a system OS based on what they are
running.
what you are running.
Run what makes you happy and simplifies your life and let me do the same.

My point exactly Sam. No conversion attempt inferred.
I'm as welcome to mess up things on OSX as you are on Win7.

With the virtualization platforms out there You can run windows 7 on my Mac, Mac OS on Windows 7, Mac or Win 7 on Linux, Linux on either Mac or win
7.... So nowadays it does not matter what you have because thanks to virtualization you can have your cake and eat it too.....Mix and match however
you want.....you don't just drink one kind of beer do ya....that would get kinda boring....

Yeah ... if you've also noticed my latest FB post, you'll notice my latest opinion of Macs - a well-dressed PC with Down's Syndrome
As fit and healthy as the hardware is, as hip and well-dressed as the interface is ... it's crippled by being the intellectual equivalent of windows
95 - and I'm being generous.
I bought the thing so I could sit on the sofa in front of the heater and TV next to the wife and edit eBooks ... but I can't cos none of the software
around will run on "my version" of the Mac. No wonder Mac users have hundreds of the machines - they stop being useful after a couple of years.
If you have simple, banal reasons for using a computer then I'm sure a Mac will suit you fine. But if you actually need it to do MORE than type
letters of undying love to Steve Jobs and search the internet for the latest pictures of the new iPhone, then you're better off with a real computer -
a Windows-based, Intel-chipped, Nvidia-driven PC.
... I miss annoying anyone? Oh yes - Corsair, Kingston et al - you're rip-off artists.
Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Linux is great. It was my primary OS for about 10 years. I still routinely run some flavor of Linux virtualized.
I got a Mac about a year back and really like that. I've run them Linux, Mac and Windows, but Mac is def my favorite. I run a lot of free software
and it's as available or the Mac as Linux, so the conversion was no big deal for me.
