*Video*"In the night time"

I spent Thursday afternoon, 5-17-12, at Southwick Beach. The wind started out from the west at 10-15, dropped off for a while to 7-8 from the SW, then came back to the west at about 10 for the sunset session. I started out with the 4.8M NPW5 (thanks to rdavis I had a back-up) Switched to the 7.6M NPW9, rigged 2 line on a bar, then back to the 4.8 when the wind changed back. I have noticed the NPW 9's are somewhat more touchy flown on the 2-line bar. They have a tendency to "back-up" or fly backwards, if the line bias is not kept just right. This can result in getting pulled out the back of the buggy, especially with the 7 & 7.6M! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video, it is much the same as most of my vids, but the music, from BuzzUniverse's Living Breathing Magic CD is relaxed, and I'd like to dedicate this one to cheezy, I know you haven't been able to get out, bro, so sit back, put it on full screen, put your feet up and enjoy!

The goPro perspective makes that big old tree look real close as you go through the narrow spot ... nice flying ... What line length are you flying? Looks 15m or less? Still looks like lots of usable beach despite the narrow spot by the "kite catcher" tree ... thanks for the Vid ... enjoyed it

I made those lines up myself, I think they are about 50'. That spot by the tree can be a bit of a challenge, the wind tends to get a little swirly around the rocks/brush. I went through there with the 7.6 on the 2-line bar, and the kite almost backed right up into the tree. I guess I was afraid to 'commit'! :wee:

Looked like a very nice session, Bob. The Nasa Stars will also go backwards at times, particularly if the wind is light or I try to hold them static above my head in very light wind. On launch sometimes too. Once they're moving or there's 10 knots or more, they're fine and will hover at the edge indefinitely. It's a bit weird if you stack 'em nose first into the ground and they just bounce back up flying backwards!

Thanks John, Dave. @Bigbear, I checked those lines, and they are not the ones I made up, but came with the 2.4M NPW I got from ragden. I think they are only 30 feet long! I have been swapping lines/handles around so much lately I couldn't remember. I've got 25' lines on the 2-line bar, and I just made a 50' set for it, too. I'm not so sure I'd make it through that lookout area with 50 footers, though!
I e-mailed the link to one of the band members I've been chatting with. He was really impressed with the sunset scene, too!(and how it worked with the tune)

Was looking on google maps and looks like a great place. How long is the beach, are you able to ride the whole beach?

Yeah Jeff, its the best kept secret in the East! The State Beach (up to the lookout point) might be about 1/2 mile, then it's about 4 miles south to the 'cut', where Floodwood Pond empties into Lake Ontario. I rarely make it that far in my runs, though. The beach gets narrower as you get closer to the cut, and a lot more driftwood washes ashore the closer you get. I think I've only kited the whole way once. I have towed the buggy with my bike all the way to the cut to ride the 100 yards that faces south, on a good S wind during summer. I think a good run is to the Southern most observation deck, about 3 miles or so. (It's where I usually start thinking, "It's a long walk back, if the wind dies...")

That big tree at the rocks is no camera illusion , my lines are a little longer than Bobs and I've flown my kites in the space between the overhanging branches and the guard rail. I've also snagged those branches and was lucky enough to back the kite out of them.
Nice video Bob , sooopa cool place to fly at sunset.
